With the end of Avengers: Endgame came a brand new era, the end of the storylines for Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). After sharing a universe with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) for the better part of a decade, they’re going their separate ways.
Their characters haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, but what about the actors? Would Hemsworth ever pair up with Downey Jr and Evans on another project, or are they all content to say goodbye?
The ‘Avengers’ superheroes didn’t always get along
Iron Man and Thor were destined to dislike each other. Neither of them has ever met anyone he admired as much as himself.
And as for Iron Man, he has never had much patience for Captain America’s squeaky-clean take on life. The two of them had a pretty big falling out in Captain America: Civil War.
But all of that happens in the fictional world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What about the real-life relationships of the actors who brought these superheroes to life?
The ‘Avengers’ cast were great friends
They also like to joke around. Once, Hemsworth called Downey Jr. on the phone from the stage at a fan event. He didn’t warn Downey Jr. he would be calling from a public event, yet he answered by saying: “Chris, is that you, my dear?”
Hemsworth has also said that he and Evans weren’t allowed to do press tours together because they were playing around too much to pay attention to what they were doing. Evans agreed, saying: “We had too much fun together, and truly like kids in school, we were separated because we weren’t getting s— done.”
Clearly they enjoy each other’s company, but does that mean they’d be interested in working together again?
Are they ready to tackle a new project together?
It sounds like the three actors are definitely open to the idea of getting back together to make another movie. In fact, not only would they enjoy joining forces again as actors, but Hemsworth even has an idea for the project they should do.
At a Comic-Con event in Chicago, he talked about how sad he was that Evans and Downey Jr wouldn’t be around the set anymore. He wondered if the three of them would ever get the chance to spend time hanging out together again.
As he mused about that, he said: “And I immediately started thinking ‘What else could we do?’ And I’d love to. We could remake the Three Amigos! or something.”
Three Amigos! was a slapstick western comedy released in 1986. With a comedic genius cast of Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short, it was just as hilarious (and sometimes inappropriate) as you might imagine. Evans has suggested before that the three of them should get together to remake some sort of 80’s buddy film, so this could be the script they are looking for.
Downey Jr., Evans, and Hemsworth might be the perfect trio to revisit this romp through a Mexican village. After all, the characters in the film are actually mistaken for heroes, and these amigos have had some practice with playing the part of the good guys.
