Would Princess Diana Approve of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Parenting?

There’s no doubt that Princess Diana broke down a lot of barriers when it came to the royal family’s relationship with the public. Her marriage to Prince Charles might have been marked by tension and unhappiness, but when it came to how the public and press saw Princess Diana, it was nothing less than adulation.

People everywhere loved the “people’s princess” for her sweet, down-to-earth manner in front of the cameras and the down-to-earth way in which she parented her children.

These days, her eldest son, Prince William, is carrying her legacy in a very unique, special way.

Princess Diana was a hands-on parent

Although Princess Diana was very young when she entered the royal family, she came into her own when she became a mother. After welcoming Prince William in 1982, she found her true purpose in life and one that would go on to inspire thousands of fans.

Princess Diana became completely focused on being the best mother that she could to her young son, even breaking royal protocol by insisting that he travel with her and Prince Charles on an overseas trip.

When she had her second son, Prince Harry, a few years later, she was overjoyed. Although her marriage to Prince Charles was reportedly breaking down, she found solace in being with her children as much as possible. Princess Diana took her boys places where many royal children had never been before – public parks, McDonald’s hamburger restaurants, and even brought them with her to volunteer at homeless shelters.

She seemed determined that her boys would understand the power and privilege that they had been born into, teaching them that it was their responsibility to help others as much as possible.

Prince William and Kate Middleton follow Princess Diana’s example

Princess Diana tragically died in 1997, leaving her young sons, ages 15 and 12, without her guiding light. Still, the lessons that she taught were powerful ones, and it is clear that both Prince William and Prince Harry have learned a lot from their mother. Prince William, in particular, seems to be patterning his parenting style directly after his mother.

A recent news article pointed out the distinct similarities between the way that Princess Diana led her two boys and the way that Prince William and Kate Middleton now are raising their young family of three children.

For one, the article discusses how Prince William and Kate Middleton aren’t afraid to travel with their children while they are still young – even bringing their son, Prince George, on a trip to Australia before his first birthday, just like Princess Diana did with Prince William when he was a baby.

They are also hands-on parents and are often seen talking and cuddling with their children in public, even squatting down to talk to their children at eye-level.

Princess Diana would be proud of both of her sons

While Prince William and Kate Middleton are the most visible in the royal family in terms of their private lives, Prince Harry also recently became a parent.

Ever since his son, Archie Harrison, was born in May 2019, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have shown that they will not only be fiercely protective of their young son but that they also intend to follow Princess Diana’s example and instill a love of charitable work in their young family.

There’s no doubt that even though Princess Diana isn’t here to see her sons become fathers, that she would be proud of the men that they have become.
