The Wu-Tang Clan rose to prominence in the early 1990s. Their 1993 debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) showed that they were a force to be reckoned with. Soon, individual members of the group, including Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, began recording their own music.

After the group split up, the Wu-Tang members remained good friends and collaborators in the industry. In March 2021, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon reunited for a Verzuz battle for the ages.

Now, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon want to compete in another Verzuz battle. But this time, they want to do it together.

Raekwon and Ghostface Killah want to do ‘Verzuz’ battle with The LOX

In a November 2021 interview with Revolt, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah spoke about their ideal match for a Verzuz battle: iconic New York hip-hop group The LOX, consisting of Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch.

“I love The LOX, man,” Raekwon said. “Them n****s is like us. We love them in real life.”

Ghostface Killah added, “The LOX still make me go write. I don’t get inspired by rap no more, but at the time when Biggie and Nas, Mobb [Deep], all that, it was like, ‘Okay,’ and I’m looking forward to brothers’ albums coming. M.O.P., Hov, all of them. But that’s all New York.”

“I don’t really get that much inspired no more, maybe because I’m not really hearing it go off like that ’cause a lot of other s*** is flooding the way or whatever. But when I hear a couple of pieces coming from LOX and all that shit like that, it’ll be like, ‘Oh s***,’” Ghostface Killah continued.

The LOX went against Dipset in a Verzuz battle in August 2021.

Raekwon said he and Ghostface Killah changed Verzuz

Raekwon went on to speak about how intense The LOX and Dipset’s Verzuz battle was. He also added what believes is the key to “winning” a Verzuz battle.

“One thing about Verzuz: anybody could win if your list is right,” he said. “It’s all about your list. So it ain’t really about your head getting blown off, it’s just all about you being strategic with what you think he may come out with, and counter. But I’ma be honest with you, when they were doing all of that, whylin’ on each other, I respect it, because it was a night of battling. When you battling, you battling, even though it’s friendly competition.”

He added, “To be honest with y’all, me and [Ghostface Killah] set it off with that, because we was the ones that came before everybody else. So me knowing how important it is to see real competition, I knew I had to start talking shit with this dude.”
