Fans of XXXTentacion have been mourning the loss of the rapper after he was shot and killed on Monday, June 18.

The star, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was gunned down as he left a motorsports dealership in South Florida. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. After news of his death broke, several big names in the music industry began flooding social media with tributes for the 20-year-old hip-hop artist.

By Tuesday evening, vigils had been organized in Los Angeles as well as his native Florida.

ABC 7 reported that hundreds gathered in the streets of L.A. but some fans got out of hand and police were called in to try and disperse the large crowd. People were seen climbing on top of vehicles, swarming the streets and sidewalks, and scaling buildings. Traffic was also blocked for a period of time and officers in riot gear fired rubber bullets into the crowd. However, there were no arrests.

Things got out of control at a memorial in Florida as well when the rapper’s ex-girlfriend, Geneva Ayala, showed up. Ayala had accused XXXTentacion of brutally beating her while she was pregnant with his child. The case was still pending at the time of his death so some of his fans were surprised she attended while others were angry she was there and made their feelings known.

The Daily Mail noted that she posted about being chased away from the candlelight vigil that was being held at the RIVA Motorsports where XXX was killed and said she was devastated that mementos she left there were set on fire.

“They kicked me out of the vigil. So damn disrespectful. I can’t believe people are that selfish,” she wrote in a caption on Instagram. “I wasn’t even there 25 minutes and I literally got pulled away from the memorial. I just wanted to stay. I wasn’t bothering anyone. This is unfair.” She continued:

“THEY BURNED THE S**T I LEFT THEY BURNED WHAT I BROUGHT FOR HIM I’M SO MAD LIKE I’M SCREAMING. I left those things for him. I didn’t bother anyone. I said nothing to no one … How did they let that happen. Why would anyone let that happen, where is the respect? The globe, board, flowers, and candles I brought for him were placed BEHIND THE CAUTION TAPE. AND THEY LET THEM GET THE S**T AND SET IT ALL ON FIRE. He would’ve wanted me there. I have no f**king words.”

Ayala and XXXTentacion met in 2014 and dated on and off until 2016. She told prosecutors that he beat her regularly by punching her, choking her, holding knives to her face, and even holding her head underwater. She alleged that when he found out she was pregnant with his child, he threatened to kill her and their unborn child.

He was later arrested and charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant victim, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness tampering. He was recently placed on house arrest but a judge granted a request for him to be let off so he could tour.
