Zendaya Reacts to Emmy Nominations for ‘Euphoria’; ‘I’m Honestly Speechless…’

It seems only yesterday that the hit series Euphoria starring Zendaya premiered on HBO. The show, which premiered back in June of 2019, seemed to take the entertainment industry by storm. The dark drama follows Rue, a 17-year-old drug addict with no intention of staying sober, and her journey through adolescence. Today, July 27, 2020, the show received 6 Emmy nominations and fans could not be more excited.

Led by Zendaya, Euphoria also explores important themes that today’s youth is facing like sexuality, gender identity, family dynamics, bullying, etc. It’s a show that has been championed for painting an accurate depiction of what it’s like for Gen Z to come up in today’s day and age. Like Skins, Degrassi, and other teen dramas before it, Euphoria has faced some backlash for being too “intense” or “graphic.” But, that has hardly stopped fans from expressing their support.

‘Euphoria’ scores six Emmy nominations

In fact, the support for Euphoria has been so great that the show was renewed for a second season before the first season even finished airing. All the while fans have championed Zendaya and the rest of the cast for their outstanding performances. When the 2019 Emmy nominations were released, many fans were furious that the show didn’t earn any nominations. In fact, many viewers felt that the HBO series had been robbed.

But, there’s a good reason that Euphoria wasn’t nominated in 2019 and it has everything to do with timing. Euphoria’s series premiere date simply missed the cutoff for Emmy nominations. The 2020 Emmy’s are the first time that Euphoria was actually eligible for nomination. And, it looks like the show is getting what it deserves with six Emmy nominations including one for Zendaya for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Though Zendaya gave a stellar performance in Euphoria, her Emmy nomination still comes as a surprise. Zendaya is the youngest in her category and Euphoria is largely considered her first adult role. Still, nobody can deny that she is deserving of the nomination. Fans on Twitter and Instagram are thrilled for the Malcolm & Marie star and are congratulating her on the achievement.

“Let’s be honest, the ‘OPEN THE GOD DA*N DOOR!’ scene was an ultimate masterclass in acting. Zendaya deserves it all,” one fan shared on Euphoria’s Instagram page. “THIS SHOW DESERVES EVERYTHING. I AM BLESSED TO EXIST WHILE EUPHORIA EXISTS,” another exuberant fan chimed in. Of course, Zendaya herself reacted to the news with her ever-present grace, charm, and humility. She also thanked her fans as well as her fellow cast and crew.
