10 Coolest Accessories for Your Spring and Summer Outfits
If you’re trying to look polished on a daily basis, then we can’t overstate how important accessories are. But when the weather is hot and you’re primarily trying to figure out how to get through the day without getting too sweaty or ending up with a sunburn, it can be difficult to pay attention to the smaller details in your outfit. So we’ve done the dirty work for you and picked out the coolest accessories that’ll work with your favorite outfits this summer.
1. A classic pair of Ray-Bans
There’s a timeless style of Ray-Bans for every guy, but one that looks great on almost every face is a classic pair of Aviators. We like this pair’s gold-tone metal and green-tinted lenses, plus how easy it’ll be to pair them with everything from a blazer and chinos to a white tee and a pair of jeans.
2. A knit tie
Even when you need to wear a suit in the middle of the summer, you probably don’t want to feel quite as dressed up as you would when the weather is colder. So dress things down with a knit tie, which is one of the most versatile accessories you can own. We’d pick a style like Lanvin’s knitted tie, which is made from navy blue silk and finished with a straight end. It’s perfect for pairing with a white or light blue shirt.
3. A summery pocket square
Another essential if you just can’t get out of wearing a suit during the hottest months of the year — a summery linen pocket square. Try Isaia’s striped-border pocket square, which is made of 100% linen with meticulously rolled edges. Isaia is a label that was founded in Naples, Italy in the 1920s, and this pocket square is a great way to add a small touch of Italian tailoring to your ensemble.
4. A beach-proof card case
If you’re planning on spending lots of summer days at the beach, you’re probably familiar with the struggle of trying to keep your ID and cash with you, without risking them getting waterlogged or lost at the beach. Enter RRL’s metal card case, which not only offers a cool vintage aesthetic, but will make it at least a little bit easier to keep the sand and saltwater out of the contents of your wallet.
5. A versatile baseball cap
A baseball cap may not be an accessory that you can wear everyday, particularly if you work in an office with a conservative dress code. But for weekend errands and beach trips, a classic baseball cap is a great accessory to have along. We love Ebbets Field Flannels’ vintage-inspired caps, and were excited to find out that the label makes a summer-friendly cotton twill cap in our favorite color: navy blue.
6. A classic panama hat
If a panama hat is more your speed than a baseball cap, then consider Borsalino’s navy blue panama hat. The label’s hats are all made in Italy and are designed to retain their shape season after season. (That means that it won’t end up looking worse for wear after a single summer.) This navy blue style is finished with a grosgrain ribbon band, and an internal browband helps it stay on your head despite the coastal winds you’re looking forward to on the beach.
7. A useful tote bag
Some guys think that tote bags are just for women — but those guys are missing out on the most practical way to carry your essentials to the office, pick up the necessities at the farmer’s market, or wrangle your belongings at the beach. A U.S.-made Filson tote is an excellent choice. It’s constructed of hard-wearing twill and bridle leather, and features a zippered top to protect your belongings from rain or sand. The tote is also a great carry-on if you want to keep your laptop, passport, and favorite magazines close at hand.
8. A leather travel bag
If you’re less concerned with toting your everyday essentials around and more interested in finding a travel bag to accompany you on all of the excursions you’ve planned for the summer, consider a leather duffel that’ll last well beyond the season. RRL’s leather duffel, for instance, is constructed of Italian leather, and features a removable shoulder strap for flexible carrying options. The vintage-look duffel will only look better with years of use, and nothing looks cooler than a leather bag that’s acquired years of wear and patina.
9. A classic bandana
We all know that guy who won’t leave the house without a bandana tucked into his pocket. But what you might not have realized is that he may be on to something. Particularly in the summer months, there are plenty of uses for that bandana, and it definitely doesn’t hurt that RRL is making some gorgeous vintage-inspired bandanas this season. We’re partial to this bandana, which is inspired by the classic stitching patterns on old cowboy boots and indigo-dyed for a true workwear look.
10. A leather key fob
Whether you just have your apartment and car keys to keep track of, or if you also need to keep tabs on the keys to your buddy’s cabin or that Airbnb you’ve got for a week, you need a way to carry your keys in style this summer. We’d recommend a leather key fob, like Shinola’s leather valet key chain. It’s made of Essex leather from Horween, a Chicago-based tannery, and the key fob itself is made in the U.S., too.
