“Who are you wearing?” every eager entertainment correspondent asks a glamarous actress as soon as she arrives on the red carpet. Their male counterparts, on the other hand? Those questions are rarely asked and remembered by both blogs and Fashion Police. While the guys usually stick to the sideline when it comes to their fashion triumphs, there’s no denying that some of them serve up some serious style at all times. With the Oscars nearly upon us, check out these actors who always ace the red carpet.
1. Eddie Redmayne
Between his work in The Theory of Everything and The Danish Girl, Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne has secured his title as a serious, respected actor over the past few years. And, if we were to add our two cents in, we’d also argue that he has established himself as a true fashion guy on the red carpet. It seems as if Redmayne never sticks to the same thing twice: a plaid suit to a premiere, velvet dinner jacket for an award show, and suits of all neutral tones for press junkets galore. With a simple black tuxedo being an acceptable norm for men on the red carpet, any guy who isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo is worthy of a spot on our list.
2. Jared Leto
In the entertainment industry, Leto wears many hats: He’s the frontman for Thirty Seconds to Mars, an Academy Award actor, and a hair role model for all grooming experts. But style-wise? He is the man of many suit colors. The guy has worn everything from fire engine reds, pastel blues, angelic whites, and even the occasional metallic suit jacket. Is it everyone’s taste? No. However, we can’t help but give major style props to someone who is so colorblind when it comes to picking out a suit.
3. George Clooney
We won’t tell anyone about your man crush, but let’s face it: George Clooney is the fine wine of actors — he just gets better with age. And, sartorially speaking, his red carpet getups aren’t half bad either. As an award show veteran, there’s something totally admirable about Clooney’s very laid-back approach to getting dressed for a high-profiled event. Sure, he’s usually buttoned up in a snazzy tuxedo for most occasions; however, sometimes he’s sporting some serious five o’clock shadow and a partially unbuttoned shirt (sans tie…gasp). Being comfortable in your own skin never goes out of style.
4. Matthew McConaughey
Similar to his Dallas Buyers Club co-star, Jared Leto, Matthew McConaughey is no stranger to trying his luck with colorful suits: The actor has been known to sport everything from white to teal getups. But what makes McConaughey different from Leto? His ability to make event-appropriate red carpet decisions. While he’s no stranger to color when he’s nominated for an Oscar or Emmy, McConaughey is just as fashion-forward in a simple black suit when he’s a mere presenter or attendee. As any true fashion guy knows, you don’t always have to make a big statement to be dubbed stylish. And to that, we say, “Alright, alright, alright.”
5. Bradley Cooper
As one of People’s “Sexiest Men Alive,” it’s no surprise that Bradley Cooper is one of our red carpet favorites. However, it’s not his perfectly tailored suits that we’re obsessing over: It’s his hair. That’s right, whether he’s sporting a quasi buzz cut a la American Sniper or growing his mane, Cooper’s hair is always slicked-back and undeniably award-show-ready. Even when the actor is showing off some facial hair, he prevents a major Wolverine moment by keeping his beard and/or mustache neatly trimmed and shaped. While it may look polished to red carpet fanatics, we can only imagine that it reads professional to potential directors and colleagues. Kudos, Cooper.
6. Michael B. Jordan
Oh, let us count the ways we idolize the budding actor. His rough around the edges portrayal of Vince in Friday Night Lights definitely tugged at our heartstrings, his body in Creed is giving both guys and girls major fit-spiration, and his red carpet style is pretty covetable. Not only can he totally rock a monochromatic suit, like he did at the 2014 NAACP Awards, but we particularly adore his penchant for funky prints. Case in point? At the 2015 Costume Institute Gala, Jordan dared to be brave by sporting head-to-to jacquard suit from Dolce & Gabbana. And for an extra punch, he added a pair of matching floral brogues to the equation.
