Just because we’re entering the colder months does not mean that you should be skimping on your sunglass wear. Protecting your eyes is still essential; in fact, the winter sun can do just as much damage now as in the summer.

Men tend to not realize that they still need protection from UV rays even if the sun rays don’t seem as intense, when in fact they are even more so. The winter sun sits lower in the sky and at a different angle than during the warmer months of the year, says Susan Taub, MD, assistant professor of ophthalmology at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago. Because of this, she says to WebMD, “That actually gives you more exposure if you’re out for a longer period of time, like at sports and other events. It can be damaging to various layers of the eye.”

Adding to that sentiment, the Vision Council of America says that once you throw winter snow into the mix, because it’s 85% reflective of the sun’s UV rays. Protect your eyes with some of our hottest sunglass picks for the winter season.
