These Beauty Looks Will Always Be Trending

Trends come and go — especially in the beauty industry. Some emerge, peak, and fade before most even knew they were a thing. Others are so questionable, we still don’t know why they were so popular in the first place. But every once in a while, some incredibly flattering trends eventually transform into beauty staples. We love embracing the latest trends as much as the next beauty-obsessed person, but if you want something more classic, here are five beauty looks that will always be in style.

1. Red lipstick

Want to make a statement without spending hours contouring your face? Simply add some lipstick. While Bordeaux, pink, and mauve all offer a pop of color, every woman should have some red lipstick at her disposal. Sweeping some red lipstick on your pout will instantly make any outfit look more polished and feminine, not to mention the hue can even make your teeth appear whiter. Not all formulas are created equal, so if you want to find a lipstick that will brighten your smile, Elle recommends you select a formula with more blue undertones.

2. Smokey eyes

Finding the right eye shadow can be hard. Too subtle and it won’t do anything for your lids. But you’ll commit a serious beauty faux pas if you opt for a shade that’s too colorful or too shimmery. Consider a smokey eye the perfect middle ground. It packs the punch without grabbing too much attention.

If you’re attempting a smokey eye for the first time, all you need is to draw eyeliner along the top of your lash line, add a dark eye shadow to your lids, sweep a lighter shadow on your brow bone, and blend. While you can experiment with different colored eye shadows — gray, browns, and tans are perfect for this trend — keep in mind a smokey eye is an evening look. In other words, it’s great for date night but you might want to think twice before applying it for work.

3. Cat eyeliner

You know a trend is here to stay when everyone from Audrey Hepburn to Adele has sported it. If you don’t want to pull out all the stops with a smokey eye, a simple flick of the liner will suffice. And unlike a smokey eye or glittery shadow, this is one trend that will work day or night. However, as glamorous as cat eyeliner is, it’s not the easiest trend to master. If you’ve never attempted a cat eye before, we recommend you draw a thin line from your tear duct to the edge of your eyebrow and slightly curve the liner upward toward the end.

4. A great blow out

Never underestimate the power of great hair. We’re all about embracing your hair’s natural texture, but there’s something incredibly timeless about a polished blowout. Even if you’re wearing a ratty T-shirt and sweatpants, you’ll look miraculously poised if your hair is perfectly coiffed.

For anyone with naturally straight hair, getting that fresh-out-of-the-salon look may be as easy as swapping out your shampoo for a volume enhancing formula. If your hair requires some more maintenance, we recommend you invest in a quality blow dryer and round brush. Drying each section can be time-consuming and require lots of elbow grease, but the results are so worth it.

5. Well-maintained eyebrows

What’s the first thing you notice when you meet someone for the first time? Their eyes? Their smile? For many people, the first thing you’ll notice is their eyebrows. Eyebrows are the foundation of your face, and they have the power to either make or break your overall look. Whether you prefer full brows or thinner ones, a great pair will never go out of style. To keep yours in top shape, schedule regular waxes, tweezes, or threading sessions, and use a brow mascara or pomade for a subtle finish.
