Age Doesn’t Get in the Way of Fashion for These 10 Celebrities
As you may have noticed, many of the most stylish A-listers happen to be older, because they know how to to see past decades of fleeting trends. So, it seems the words Yves Saint Laurent famously spoke are true: “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” This means staying true to classic styles that can withstand the test of time is a must. To better understand what we’re talking about, take a look at these older celebrities who, without a doubt, still got it going on.
1. Jane Fonda
American actress, writer, and political activist, Jane Fonda has been a fashion icon since her Broadway debut in 1960. Looking at her impeccable sense of style and radiant skin, you’d never know she’s actually turning 80 years old this December. Here she is looking ravishing at a movie premiere in Los Angeles, where she turned just as many heads as actresses a quarter of her age.
2. Lauren Hutton
American model and actress Lauren Hutton has been entrenched in the high-fashion world since the early 1970s, when she signed what was (at the time) the biggest modeling contract in the history of the industry. Believe it or not, she has continued to model into her 70s for campaigns by Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, and other prestigious labels.
3. Helen Mirren
There’s no denying that Dame Helen Mirren has a sense of style for the books. In fact, this mega-babe seems to be getting more gorgeous with each passing year. She’s been awarded the title Dame Commander from the British Monarchy for her services to the performing arts, but we think she deserves to be applauded for her fashion sense as well. We love this nude, crystal gown she donned to the Annual Producers Guild of America Awards.
4. Meryl Streep
Perhaps Meryl Streep’s role as a magazine editor-in-chief in The Devil Wears Prada rubbed off on her, because since then, Streep’s style is looking better than ever. At 67 years old, Streep’s sense of fashion looks nothing like what you’d expect from someone soon turning 70. Her ensembles are bold, chic, and always incredibly regal.
5. Goldie Hawn
Most people struggle to retain their youthful glow as they age, but Goldie Hawn has somehow managed to defy the aging process altogether. At 71 years old, she still looks warm as ever. Much like her daughter, Kate Hudson, Hawn perpetually looks sun-kissed with her hair tousled by sea salt. Not much has changed over the years for this California girl, whose style remains whimsical and laid-back.
6. Diane Keaton
Admit it, the always spunky Diane Keaton was probably your first on-screen girl crush. Anyone who’s watched her leading roles in Woody Allen films has walked away inspired by her signature, androgynous style. Now in her early 70s, Keaton still knows how to rock a pinstripe pant suit and bowler hat like it’s nobody’s business.
7. Lee Radziwell
Lee Radziwill — interior decorator, socialite, and sister to Jackie Onassis — will go down in history as one of America’s most celebrated sartorialists. From the time she married a Polish prince in 1959 to today, Radziwill has remained true to her impeccably put-together and polished eye for fashion. At 84 years old, she still manages to always be the best-dressed woman in the room.
8. Elton John
Elton John is a man of countless talents, one of which is his unique eye for all things en vogue. From the day he stepped onto the music scene, he’s always known how to sport a funky suit. This 70 year old’s flamboyant and eclectic looks most certainly aren’t going anywhere any time soon.
9. Raquel Welch
Actress Raquel Welch has been ranked second on the Hottest Women of All Time list by Men’s Health, and we can’t say we disagree. This bombshell became an international sex symbol when she posed in a doe-skin bikini — an image that would quickly become a bestselling poster. As you can tell by this curve-hugging white dress, Welch, at 76, hasn’t lost her sex appeal in the slightest.
10. Sophia Loren
Italian actress Sophia Loren still channels the Golden-Era glamour we can’t get enough of. In 1991, Loren received the Academy Honorary Award for her contributions to international film, and was declared “one of the world cinema’s treasures.” With her acting abilities noted, we’d like to say we’d do anything to get our hands on some of the treasures hidden in this fashionista’s closet. Just look at how chic she looked at the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival. You know her vintage designer collection must be to die for.
