Is Grey Hair Coming Back in Style?
Let’s face it: Dudes with grey hair get a bad rap. If they’re not compared to the likes of Santa Claus, they’re instantly deemed old or stressed. On the contrary, rocking your naturally grey hair is far cooler than dying your locks an unrealistic shade of black. And luckily, thanks to a slew of sophisticated tastemakers, grey hair is not only acceptable, but actually stylish. Not convinced? Check out our list of guys who are definitely bringing grey hair back.
1. George Clooney
Ah, Clooney. Who better to start off our list than the fine wine of a guy who only seems to get better with age? The actor has spent nearly a decade as a silver fox, but manages to make those smokey strands covetable. Perhaps Clooney looks so good because he has the best attitude about growing older.
“There is nothing fun [about aging],” the actor told ETOnline last year. “I know for actresses, it’s infinitely worse because of public perception based on nothing except studios not hiring them, but I think for all of us you have to come to terms with getting older and not trying to fight it.”
In reality? Clooney tops this list because he’s found a way to make his hair hue a signature piece instead of an aging symptom. Whether wearing a tailored suit or costume for his latest movie, Clooney’s grey hair and dark, bushy eyebrows have made women swoon and men seriously question their reservations about getting older.
2. Nick Wooster
Even in the fashion world, grey hair is making a major comeback. Take Nick Wooster, for example, a street style star who modeled for Public School’s spring 2016 presentation and previously worked with luxury brands such as Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
What we love most about Wooster’s hair, you ask? His archaic color is juxtaposed by a youthful cut: Those shaven sides and a defiant pompadour offer a modern-day approach to Elvis’s famous flip.
Slightly bad, but still gentlemanly, Wooster’s coiffure has cool guy written all over it.
3. Anderson Cooper
There was Murrow, Cronkite, and Blitzer. But perhaps no broadcast journalist’s appearance is more iconic than the great Anderson Cooper. Everything about Cooper’s look is striking: His dramatic side part, almost-white coiffure color, sharp features, and ultra-bright blue eyes. While it may sound extremely severe, all these features work nicely together to create a truly iconic look.
And at only 49 years old, Cooper proves that young guys can rock the grey do.
4. John Slattery
It’s rare that a guy looks even better with grey hair; however, we’ve found the exception to that rule: John Slattery. Let’s do a before and after, shall we? Simply search “young John Slattery” and note how he looks. The dull complexion and less-pronounced features? Yeah, definitely not icon status. But then when you look at John Slattery 2.0, the Mad Men star’s skin looks radiant and clear, not to mention his features are extremely pronounced.
Women love him and guys want to be him — the true definition of a silver fox.
5. Sean Connery
The aging process is rarely the same for any two men; however, greying and balding are two common symptoms of getting older. This former James Bond has endured both less-than-ideal grooming milestones, leaving him with a smooth scalp and a grey beard. But no matter where the grey is on his head, we can all agree that the the Scott looks stylish regardless of his age. Perhaps it’s those thick, iconic eyebrows or the quasi bad boy reputation, but we think Connery is the poster child for rocking the hue, with or without hair.
6. Jonathan Goldsmith
Whether executing a high-stakes ski jump or casually sipping a cocktail poolside, the 77 year old never fails to pique our interests. After all, he has been the Dos Equis frontman for the past 10 years. But just because his stint as “The Most Interesting Man in the World” is over doesn’t mean that he’s no longer one of the most stylish grey-haired men out there. On the contrary, Mr. Goldsmith’s salt-and-peppered hair (and matching beard) are eternally dapper.
