If any season can make you feel like you have nothing to wear, it’s probably summer. Between the stiflingly hot weather, the uncomfortable humidity, and the sudden trendiness of everything skin-baring, summer is difficult. You aren’t alone if you suddenly find yourself looking at a closet that seems entirely inadequate for the weather at hand. You also aren’t the only one wondering how on earth you dressed yourself last summer, when you must have faced the same problem.
As much as we love remixing the pieces we have and building a smartly edited capsule wardrobe, we’ll also admit that a fun way out of a summer style rut is a little bit of shopping. And just like most of the other things you buy on a regular basis, you can do a bit of one-stop-shopping at Amazon to upgrade your wardrobe. In fact, you can pick up a new outfit or two all in a single order — one that’ll arrive on your doorstep in just a few days if you have a Prime membership.
1. Summer brunch
Keeping things simple is the name of the game when it’s hot outside. If you don’t want sleeves to roll or layers to shed, we’d pair an Equipment sleeveless blouse with a light wash pair of Baldwin jeans, and perhaps a simple pair of Bloch ballet flats. The resulting look is perfect for a causal brunch or for Saturday morning errands.
2. Casual Friday
A silk top is a great summer staple, but so is a simple white tee. For a casual day at the office, pair this Current/Elliot tee with a pair of black Helmut Lang jeans and a D’orsay-styled pair of Nine West pumps. Black and white are a can’t-fail pairing, no matter the weather, but elevate a simple tee and pair of jeans to a surprisingly polished outfit for summer.
3. Afternoon meeting
Even dressing for an important meeting at work doesn’t have to alter a simple approach to summer dressing (and shopping). A white shirt is a workplace staple, so pair a unique one like Baldwin’s cropped shirt with a streamlined Calvin Klein skirt and an unexpected style of shoes, like Rachel Comey clogs.
4. Casual date
If your significant other (or your best friend) has been planning a casual date at the park or a walk around the city, this isn’t the time to sweat it out in a tight dress or invite blisters with uncomfortable shoes. Keep it simple with Vince’s striped linen tee worn with a flattering pair of MiH cropped jeans and some classic Superga sneakers.
5. Dinner and drinks
Even meeting friends for dinner and drinks doesn’t have to change your simple dressing or Amazon-shopping routine. For dressed-up evenings, go for a unique ensemble by pairing Theory’s striped shirt with the unexpected shape of this C/Meo Collective skirt. Add a pair of simple Kate Spade pumps and you have an outfit that’s comfortable and easy, but also a unique look.
6. Average day
Not everyone works in an office where a pencil skirt and pumps are the go-to uniform. If your workplace is a little more on the casual side, keep things polished with a pair of Scotch & Soda chinos and a chambray Lucky Brand shirt. Add a pair of Swedish Hasbeens booties for a fun take on heels and you’ll be ready for whatever the day throws at you.
7. Summer outings
Even if you don’t normally opt for a dress, either on typical days or for special occasions, summer is a great time to give them a try. A silk style like this Equipment dress is about as simple and breezy as summer outfits go, especially when paired with Frye sandals and a Clare Vivier clutch.
8. Fun with friends
Whether it’s seeing a show or grabbing a cup of coffee, there are plenty of times you want to look cute without thinking too hard about what to wear. A jumpsuit is the perfect solution. We’d recommend this Steven Alan jumpsuit paired with a Levi’s jacket if you’re headed somewhere with robust air conditioning, plus a great pair of Loeffler Randall flats.
