These A-List Celebrities Have Been the Biggest Supporters of Georgina Chapman’s Marchesa Brand
In the wake of sexual assault, harassment, and rape accusations facing her husband, Harvey Weinstein’s wife, Georgina Chapman, has announced she’s leaving him. That said, as the woman behind Hollywood’s most beloved red carpet gowns and dresses, the Marchesa designer is better off without him.
While many have claimed she’d be nowhere without the help of her Hollywood mogul husband, Chapman’s star-studded fanbase proves otherwise. From Sandra Bullock’s Oscar gown to Blake Lively’s wedding dress, Marchesa has been there for some of Hollywood’s proudest moments. And A-list celebrities continue to show loyalty to Chapman’s whimsical designs.
We take a look at some of Georgina Chapman’s biggest celebrity supporters, ahead.
1. Blake Lively
From small events to major awards shows, it’s no secret that Blake Lively is one of Marchesa’s biggest fans. In fact, she loves Georgina Chapman’s designs so much that she wore a Marchesa wedding dress.
Photographed here in a black lace Marchesa dress with floral embroidery, the actress adds some old Hollywood glamour to Chapman’s design.
2. Julianne Hough
Another loyal Marchesa celebrity? Julianne Hough. Photographed here at the 67th Emmy Awards in a sexy cut-out lace gown by the designer, the celebrity dancer steals the show.
That said, this isn’t the only time Hough has worn the designer’s threads. Like Lively, Julianne Hough also walked down the aisle in a Marchesa wedding dress. People shares exclusive photos, here.
3. Chrissy Teigen
If Chrissy Teigen has Georgina Chapman’s back, we know she’ll be okay — at least, as far as social media support is concerned. The model and social media “it” girl has graced the red carpet in Marchesa designs a handful of times.
One of our favorites? The red lace gown she wore to the Oscars in 2016. Sheer, yet elegant, the expecting mom looked absolutely regal.
4. Sandra Bullock
In 2010, Sandra Bullock accepted an Oscar for Best Actress in a stunning gown by Marchesa. The dress itself featured a modern take on old Hollywood glamour — perfect for Oscar night — with metallic fabric and lace detail. Not to mention: It paired nicely with her Oscar.
5. Kerry Washington
It’s no secret that Kerry Washington kills it on the red carpet. Looking as if she stepped out of a fairy tale, Washington wowed in a floral Marchesa gown at the 65th Emmy Awards. We love the gold lace detail in the bodice, the floral appliqués — they look so real! — and the way the dress’ straps and belted waist framed her figure. Absolutely stunning!
6. Katy Perry
Known for always going big and bold, Katy Perry wowed at the 2016 Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Marchesa. The deep red gown — which could not be more perfect for the pop star — featured an off-the-shoulder neckline, mermaid silhouette and bell sleeves, all decorated in red rose petals.
7. Renée Zellweger
Another fan of Georgina Chapman? Renée Zellweger. Photographed here in a shorter Marchesa ensemble, we love the plum hue, drapery, and floral detail. Plus, it flatters her figure perfectly.
8. Kate Hudson
We can always count on Kate Hudson to kill it on the red carpet. Seen here in a low-cut black Marchesa dress at the 2016 Hollywood Film Awards, the actress pulls all the stops. The low-cut, high-slit silhouette of the dress and floral detail that drapes across her body are both flattering and elegant.
9. Octavia Spencer
As one of the most popular designers at the Oscars, Marchesa always knows how to keep it fresh. Case in point: The feathered dress Octavia Spencer wore to the 2017 Academy Awards. The different textures, combined with the metallic lavender fabric, give the gown a regal, yet on-trend appeal.
10. Nina Dobrev
At the 2016 “Manus x Machina: Fashion in The Age of Technology” Costume Institute Gala at The Met Museum, Nina Dobrev wowed in a tulle Marchesa number. Featuring floral embroidered detail, the sheer-looking gown showcased Georgina Chapman’s talent beautifully.
11. Jennifer Lopez
We can always count on Jennifer Lopez to wow us. And at the 2007 Academy Awards, she brought the wow-factor in a Greek goddess-inspired Marchesa gown. The dusty lavender gown featured a dazzling neckline, waist detail, and a figure-flattering draped skirt.
This isn’t the only time Lopez has worn Georgina Chapman’s designs. The pop star is actually a major fan and has represented the designer on the red carpet on numerous occasions.
While Rihanna has worn some controversial numbers throughout her career, she also knows how to class things up. Case in point: The laser cut Marchesa gown she wore to the 2009 American Music Awards. Classy yet true to her style, the black and white dress was made from scuba knit material and featured floral laser cut detailing and an ultra flattering silhouette.
13. Vera Farmiga
Another Oscar favorite? The raspberry gown Vera Farmiga wore to the 2010 Academy Awards. The bright color paired with the ultra flattering ruffled detail was truly a work of art. We love the way the ruffle pattern flows across the Farmiga’s body, showing off her figure.
14. Halle Berry
Another actress with eyes for Marchesa? None other than Halle Berry. The Hollywood superstar wore a bedazzled tulle number by Georgina Chapman to the 2011 Academy Awards. We love the way Chapman paired the sheer fabric and beaded design to create a sexy, yet classy look — something we’ve seen throughout many of her designs.
15. Penelopé Cruz
Speaking of tulle and beaded detailing, Penelopé Cruz is also a fan. At the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides premier, she dazzled in a lavender and nude Marchesa gown with beaded detailing — one of our favorite Marchesa designs. We love the way the lavender tulle drapes across her body and bunches at her shoulders and how the beaded pattern creates an ultra flattering effect. Georgina Chapman really has figured out the art of the red carpet dress.
