These Photos Reveal That Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Their Children Love to Dress Alike
Everybody knows Kate Middleton has an eye for style. She always looks perfectly put together when she appears at a royal event. But have you ever noticed when she goes out with Prince William, their outfits often match? And especially when they appear as a family with Prince George and Princess Charlotte, they seem to match more often than not.
Below, check out the most adorable instances of William and Kate matching with each other and their kids.
1. They all wear shades of the same color
When William, Kate, George, and Charlotte match, that doesn’t mean they all wear the exact same shade of a color. Instead, they usually coordinate by wearing different shades of the same color. When they arrived at an airport in Berlin in summer 2017, they showed up all wearing blue. William’s tie may be a pretty good match for Kate’s dress, but the children wore different shades of light blue. They all looked great together without matching exactly.

2. Kate and William sometimes wear exactly the same shade
Navy blue often varies widely from store to store and label to label. But despite the difficulty of finding a truly consistent navy blue, William and Kate sometimes match exactly. As the couple departed the 2018 Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey, they showed off head-to-toe navy outfits that matched pretty closely. Kate even found a hat and shoes to match, ditching her usual nude heels for a pair in blue.

3. They sometimes coordinate even on formal occasions
It’s easy to coordinate when you’re dressed casually. (Of course, the royal family’s definition of “casual” probably looks very different than yours!) But William, Kate, George, and Charlotte even manage to coordinate when they have to get dressed up. Kate not only matched her hat to her dress expertly during the royal family’s 2016 tour of Canada, but she also got William, George, and Charlotte to dress in blue, too.

4. Sometimes, they all wear navy blue
Clearly, William and Kate wear a lot of blue. They often wear different shades of the color, coordinating instead of matching exactly. But in this photo taken during a 2014 tour of Australia and New Zealand — George’s first official trip overseas — the young family all wore navy blue. From William’s suit to George’s shorts (and his tiny shoes and socks!) to Kate’s classic ensemble, they all looked put together and classic.

5. They really love wearing blue
William and Kate do wear a lot of blue. That could have something to do with William’s wardrobe or the fact that navy blue remains the most versatile color for a suit. But either way, Kate doesn’t seem to have a problem with wearing a lot of the color herself. During a 2016 visit to the Royal International Air Tattoo, the young family all wore shades of blue. And adorably enough, George’s ear protection looks like a perfect match for Kate’s sheath dress.

6. They sometimes choose a more festive color to wear as a family
Though William and Kate wear a lot of neutral colors, such as navy blue, they also dress in brighter colors when the occasion merits it. (Maybe they’re not as bright as the colors the queen wears, though!) In this photo taken in Hamburg in northern Germany, the family all wore shades of purple and pink. William obviously isn’t wearing a purple suit, but he added a splash of color with a brightly colored tie.

7. They sometimes match their accessories
Neither William nor Kate seems to wear a ton of red. (A notable exception is when William wears the ceremonial uniform for the Irish Guards, in which he holds the honorary title of colonel.) As they concluded their royal visit to Australia in 2014, William and George coordinated with red accessories. George wore a bright red cardigan, while William wore a tie with red and blue stripes.

8. Sometimes, Kate and William coordinate cold-weather accessories
Especially during the coldest days of winter, most people throw on their warmest clothes and accessories, not worrying about what matches. But during a visit to Sweden and Norway early in 2018, William and Kate wore matching accessories. In addition to their black outerwear, they both wore burgundy scarves. And even William’s fair isle hat matched their neckwear.

9. They color-coordinated in some of their most iconic family photos
In the iconic photos that showed Kate and William first becoming a family after George’s birth, the new parents coordinated in light blue. As they departed the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kate famously wore a dress that didn’t hide her post-baby bump, winning the hearts of women who don’t often see the realities of childbirth reflected in media coverage of celebrities’ post-baby bodies and fashion choices.

10. William and George matched on another joyous occasion
William and Kate aren’t the only members of the family who occasionally match when they make appearances together. When William and George went to visit Kate at St. Mary’s Hospital — where the duchess had just given birth to Charlotte — they both wore blue. Adorably enough, both royals also donned the classic combination of a dress shirt and light sweater.

11. Kate and Charlotte matched for a very momentous occasion
Similarly, Kate and Charlotte have worn coordinating outfits on at least a few important occasions in the young princess’s life. In this photo, the pair arrives at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene at the Sandringham Estate. They were arriving for Charlotte’s christening, which explains the long dress that Charlotte is wearing.

12. George also matches Kate on occasion
It’s not just Charlotte with whom Kate dresses to coordinate. George has also worn outfits that match his mother’s. In this adorable photo taken at Plunkett’s Parent’s Group at Government House in Wellington, New Zealand — where Kate went during the royal tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2014 — both mother and son wear the timeless combination of black and white.

13. Kate and George have matched even for casual events
Formal occasions aren’t the only time that the Duchess of Cambridge puts her family in coordinating outfits. You probably rarely see Kate in jeans and flats. But on one occasion that warranted casual clothing — the Gigaset Charity Polo Match at Beaufort Polo Club in 2015 — Kate and George both wore blue from head to toe. Kate even paired her jeans with a striped tee, perfectly modeling a comfortable but classic ensemble.

14. Occasionally, they even match on vacation
Most people care a little bit less about what they wear on vacation than what they wear to formal events at home. But William, Kate, George, and Charlotte sometimes happen to match even when they go on vacation. When they went on a short skiing trip in the French Alps, Kate and Charlotte coordinated in white. Plus, William and George both wore blue — a pretty predictable choice for the blue-loving royals.

15. Sometimes, 1 family member skips the coordinating outfit
While William, Kate, George, and Charlotte often wear coordinating colors, they obviously don’t have any hard-and-fast rules about everybody having to match every time. When they attended a children’s party for military families during the Royal Tour of Canada in 2016, William and the children all wore shades of blue. But Kate skipped the color coordination and opted for an ivory dress instead.
