Times Celebrity Wedding Guests Looked Better Than the Bride
It takes a seriously confident bride to invite a celebrity to her wedding. Why is that, you ask? Having an actress, model, or TV personality on the guest list doesn’t just give your guests something extra special to remember, it also takes a lot of the attention away from the bride and groom. Read on to see which celebrity guests attended their dear friends’ wedding and managed to completely steal the show. You have to admit, the happy couples should have seen this coming.
1. Alessandra Ambrosio
The risks of having a supermodel at your wedding are beyond our wildest dreams. | Alessandra Ambrosio via Instagram
Any bride is taking a major risk by inviting a supermodel to her wedding. Yet that’s exactly what Ana Beatriz Barros did by inviting Alessandra Ambrosio to watch her get married in Mykonos, Greece last July. Not only was Ambrosio at the wedding, she was in it as a bridesmaid. It’s pretty obvious that this Victoria’s Secret model can upstage just about anyone, so it’s no surprise the wedding photographer followed her around the whole day.
2. Sofia Vergara

Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is a Colombian bombshell, and she looked better than ever at her friend’s wedding in July 2015. Vergara was enlisted as a bridesmaid, a role for which she wore a daisy yellow dress. Vergara is such a stunner that she even looked drop-dead-gorgeous diving into a slice of wedding cake.
3. Caroline Issa

Fashion designer Caroline Issa was a vision in blue at Jason Wu’s wedding in Tulum. Her flowing, turquoise midi-dress was perfectly coordinated with the beach setting. As she noted in her photo caption, “Mexico rule number 1,846 – when in #Tulum, try to match the water and sky.” Now that’s a destination wedding tip we can get behind.
4. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is notorious for writing songs about heartbreak and post-breakup revenge, but the pop star decided to focus solely on love for the union of her longtime bestie Britany Maack. Swift was actually the maid of honor in her childhood friend’s Pennsylvania ceremony. “I met her when I was 10 days old, and him in Kindergarten. Now they’re married and I’m the happiest maid of honor ever,” Swift congratulated the happy couple on Instagram.
5. Emma Roberts

There are a few simple rules to follow if you’re going to invite a celebrity to your wedding. Firstly, it’s probably best to keep them out of the bridal party to avoid any unnecessary competition. Second, they need to be seated somewhere obscure if you don’t want them to steal all the attention. Finally, do not — we repeat do not — put the celeb in a white dress, or else you’re just begging for another Pippa and Kate Middleton situation. But alas, Kara Smith broke all three of these rules when she asked Emma Roberts to be her bridesmaid. As such, it’s no surprise Roberts stole the spotlight.
6. Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad is a woman of many talents: fashion design, blogging, interior design, mommy duties, and a stunning bridesmaid. Conrad was in her Paper Crown business partner’s wedding alongside fellow reality TV star Lo Bosworth. Professionally, the best friends have come a long way since their days on Laguna Beach and The Hills, and they’re looking better than ever. We couldn’t get enough of their light blue bridesmaid’s dresses, which arguably upstaged the wedding dress.
7. Diane Kruger

Wu and his longtime partner Gustavo Rangel (both of whom work for the label) met on New Year’s Eve in 2005, and tied the knot 11 years later at the Hotel Esencia in Tulum, Mexico. And it’s only fitting designer Jason Wu would have a star-studded wedding guest list. Diane Kruger was one of the standout attendees who witnessed Wu’s marriage, and she looked exceptionally stunning in a floor-length, sequin gown.
8. Selena Gomez

Isn’t it sweet when childhood actors stay friends? Selena Gomez recently attended the wedding of former co-star David Henrie. But perhaps Henrie, who used to play Gomez’s big brother on the Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, should have thought twice about inviting his pseudo-sister, because it looks like Gomez majorly upstaged his blushing bride.
9. Florence Welsh

You probably (and understandably) assume the bride is the only person wearing something custom-made to her wedding, but this isn’t always the case when celebrities are invited. For example, powerhouse vocalist Florence Welch attended a friend’s wedding in a bespoke outfit by wedding dress designer Hermione De Paula. All we can say is thank goodness it wasn’t white.
10. Alexa Chung

Model, writer, front row runway staple, and TV personality Alexa Chung looked ethereal at her friend Aimee Phillips’s wedding in 2016. Chung’s Erdem gown featured a Victorian-inspired, ruffled neckline with shoulder cutouts. If you look quickly, you might even mistake her for the bride.
