Hollywood is full of hair peacocks — women like Pink, Gwen Stefani, and Kelly Osbourne love experimenting with wild, unexpected hair styles that aggressively capture your attention. However, sometimes the best source of inspiration comes from someone more understated and minimal in their hair preferences. Kate Bosworth, for example, is someone who tends to stick with simple, iconic hair styles, then finds a way to make them modern and relevant.
If you don’t believe us, take a look at some of our favorite hair styles Bosworth has debuted over the years, and get ready to feel seriously inspired. By the end, you may even be tempted to go bleach blonde.
1. Elegantly pulled back
Bosworth has a way of taking an easy hair style and making it look fit for a princess. By simply pulling her hair back and leaving a few loose strands, Bosworth stunned onlookers at the photo call for Superman Returns at the Bristol Hotel in Paris. She looked more suited to give a royal wave, rather than be there to promote a film.
2. Long, tousled waves
If anyone can pull off bleached blonde hair, it’s Kate Bosworth. Bleach blonde is tricky to attempt, as you don’t want it to damage your locks and wash out your skin. However, Bosworth proves it can be a great look for those with fair skin — as long as it’s healthy. We wish we knew her secrets to keeping her long, tousled waves looking strong and luscious.
3. The honey-blonde crop
Although she’s most famous for her signature, white-blonde tresses, we were pleasantly surprised to see Bosworth looks just as gorgeous with a darker hair color. Her honey-blonde crop looked incredibly warm and chic at the screening of Still Alice in New York City. Now we’re eager to see what other shades she’s willing to attempt!
4. The regal up-do
Can someone please get this woman a tiara? Bosworth naturally looks like she should be ruling a country, so we may as well consider her American royalty. Her regal up-do at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party was nothing short of iconic. Though she’s chosen to pursue acting, we think Bosworth must have been a duchess in a former life.
5. The low ponytail
Bosworth broke away from her usual glamour and instead looked totally down to earth at Ebertfest, an annual film festival held in Champaign, Illinois. She may be an internationally recognized actress and fashion muse, but Bosworth proves even the most famous women occasionally keep it casual.
6. Her braided crown
We’ve raved about this braided look before, because we’ll truly never get over the ethereal, braided crown. Every so often Bosworth reveals an intricate braided hair style on the red carpet, but this time she sported it to the launch of her new app, Style Thief. We hope a tutorial on how to do this style makes its way into a post.
7. Major body and bounce
Bosworth’s hair is naturally quite thin and straight, a texture that makes it very difficult to create and maintain volume. Miraculously, Bosworth did just that at the 40th anniversary of Sir Charlie Chaplin’s Honorary Academy Award. That night she demonstrated women with thin hair can also have bouncy, voluminous locks that last all night instead of falling flat.
8. The ‘Roaring ’20s’ up-do
Bosworth is no stranger to re-creating classic looks. Exhibit A: Her 1920’s-inspired up-do at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party. This deeply parted, side-swept bun made Bosworth look like she’d walked straight out of a Fitzgerald novel. She gave us major The Great Gatsby vibes.
9. Beachy waves
Outside of getting seriously glammed for movie premieres, galas, and Oscar parties, Bosworth’s personal style is actually pretty bohemian. Her laidback, California aesthetic can be seen in one of her go-to hair styles: beachy waves. We loved how healthy and radiant this hair style made her look at the New York Fashion Week Tory Burch show.
10. Wispy, low bun
In our book, Kate Bosworth will always win the award for having the best beauty looks through the years. And while she probably rolls out of bed looking like a literal angel, Bosworth looked particularly stunning at the Altuzarra show, where she wore a wispy, low-hanging bun.
11. Half-back and sleek
When it comes to great hair styles, this woman can do no wrong. Though the look was simple and minimalist, we couldn’t get enough of Bosworth’s half-back, sleek ‘do at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. It was also nice to see her rock a center-part instead of her usual deep sweep.
12. Ballerina bun
Most women with thin hair feel the need to wear heavy extensions and hair pieces to create the illusion of having more volume, but Bosworth went au natural with her tiny ballerina bun at the 73rd Golden Globes. We have so much respect for women that are proud to work with what they’ve got, so keep up the great work, Kate!
