5 Ways to Wear a Light Scarf

Have you ever thought about wearing a scarf? It might not be your go-to accessory, but a light scarf can help dress up your T-shirts, add personality to your look, and keep your neck warm during the colder months. How you wear it depends completely on the look you’re going for. To master the look, study how guys that have a similar style to yours wear scarves, and figure out how they add the accessory to the outfit. To get you started, here are a few easy and manly ways to wear a light scarf.

1. Twice-around style

Try this knot with a long, thin scarf when the weather is colder. Drape the scarf twice around your neck, and leave two short ends dangling in the front. The twice-around knot can be styled inside or outside of an overcoat.

2. The classic drape

This is a favorite of first-time scarf users. All you need to do is drape the scarf over the neck. You don’t have to tie anything, and it works great with suits or sport jackets. Wear it over your T-shirt to make it the focal point of your look or under your overcoat for a subtle effect. If you’re wearing a coat in earthy tones, pair it with a patterned scarf to add a pop of color to a muted ensemble.

3. As a tie replacement

Swap out a silk tie for a scarf. This style is more show than function, but it works great for a formal look in warmer weather. Fold the scarf over across the chest for an effortless, shawl-collar effect. Wear it tucked into a cardigan or with a crisp white shirt with the first buttons undone.

4. Simple once-around wrap

This is a super simple way to style your scarf, and it works great with medium-length to long scarves. Wrap the scarf once around your neck, and make sure the ends are even. That’s it!

5. The Parisian knot

For longer scarves, the Parisian knot is easy to accomplish and gives you the most coverage for really cold days. Use a silk or linen scarf because a bulkier fabric makes the end knot look larger. How to tie it? Fold the scarf in half at the middle with its ends touching, insert the loose ends through the loop hanging in front of you and pull them through. Adjust accordingly. You can wear it with a leather jacket or blazer.
