While you may read some of these health treatments and practices and laugh at how crazy they sound or quickly decide it’s not something you’d ever try, these bizarre treatments should not easily be written off. Alternative medicine and treatments do not always have the research and scientific support that standard practices and procedures have, but that doesn’t mean they should be ignored. The World Health Organization estimates that most people in developing nations receive the bulk of their health care from indigenous health systems. Even in the United States, more and more clinics and hospitals are embracing alternative medicine as a supplement to traditional medicine.

From glitzy spa treatments to therapy sessions, these bizarre health treatments should be tried at least once before being dismissed as crazy. You may just like the results!

If you love beer, then this spa treatment is not to be missed. Legends claim that Cleopatra preserved her beauty by bathing in milk, so why shouldn’t you enjoy a nice beer bath? Czech Republic is the land of beer, so it didn’t take long for them to brew a special bathing beer using fine Czech hops that actually stimulates the skin and internal organs. This once in a lifetime treatment is available at Beer Spa Bernard in Prague and includes unlimited consumption of beer.

Rather than working with your muscles or tissue, this type of therapy works with your bones. Cranial sacral is said to alleviate stress and pain in the body by realigning and restoring the natural position of the bones that make up your head, spinal column, and sacrum. The therapist will work to realign your body and restore the natural position of your bones to relieve chronic injuries, provide relief from migraines, joint inflammation, and back pain.

3. Colon hydrotherapy

If you’ve ever suffered from constipation, heartburn, or any other digestive issues, you may have a blockage in your colon. After a lifetime of eating crops grown with pesticides and food containing additives its no wonder that those toxins get built up inside our body leading to blockages in our digestive tract. This treatment gives your digestive system a full cleaning by shooting water into your colon to flush out any debris or blockages. In addition to improving digestion, hydrotherapy is said to increase energy, jumpstart weight loss, and detox your body.

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like royalty then the 24-karat gold facial is a must. Gold is said to be anti-aging with the ability to preserve the skin’s suppleness and natural luminosity. While a gold facial is most definitely expensive and lavish, its benefits cannot be ignored. It fights the aging of the face by slowing collagen depletion, restoring elasticity, stimulating cell growth to regenerate skin cells, and provide a visible tightening effect.

5. Reiki healing

Reiki is a Japanese form of alternative medicine that is said to heal the body by using a hands-on healing technique. The practitioner uses their hands to transfer energy to your body to support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki has no scientific evidence backing it up, but it is being integrated into health centers and hospitals to reduce anxiety, pain, relieve depression, and induce relaxation.

6. Oil pulling

This ancient therapy is said to promote oral health while detoxing the mouth, teeth, gums, and throat. You simply swish around a tablespoon of cold-pressed, organic oil in your mouth for 10 to 15 minutes. Using the same technique as you would with mouthwash, swishing around the oil is said to pull toxins from your mouth, strengthen your teeth, and improve your breath. This technique can be done at home and is practically free to do. Use sesame, coconut, or even olive oil. After 10 to 15 minutes, spit out the mixture.
