6 Daily Affirmations That Will Make You Happier

Sometimes we all need to take a deep breath, let go of our stresses, and remind ourselves that life is good. When we have a positive outlook on life, it is more likely for us to be optimistic and cheerful about a situation we are in.

Affirmations can relieve stress, make us more confident and happy, and calm our unruly minds. Positive affirmations determine the tone of your emotional life, according to Brian Tracy International, a company that specializes in the development of individuals and organizations. We can have positive affirmations for just about anything: a difficult task that is approaching, a rocky relationship, a work-related issue, or just general positivity about life.

Dr. Carmen Harra, a clinical psychologist and relationship expert, says in Huffington Post, “Affirmations are proven methods of self-improvement because of their ability to rewire our brains. Much like exercise, they raise the level of feel-good hormones and push our brains to form new clusters of ‘positive thought’ neurons.”

Negativity drowns us; it makes our relationships harder, work unbearable, and can quite literally kill us. Luckily there are plenty of ways to combat those evil voices in our heads. It is up to us to determine the path that we want to take, and it is possible to feel extremely encouraged by your own words.

Repeat these six positive affirmations throughout your day, and feel yourself become happier and more confident.

1. Start everyday by saying, “I like myself and I love my work”

Repeat this over and over. Say it while you brush your teeth, while you walk to your car, throughout your workday, and before you go to bed. By doing this, you will be able to stay afloat with whatever problem you have and face it head on. Although it is inevitable things won’t always go your way, by repeating this affirmation, you may find the confidence to pick up and move on when things gets rough.

2. “I have the knowledge to make smart decisions for myself today”

This could be the mantra you whisper to yourself in the mirror when your buddies ask you to hit happy hour for the third time this week. That may work. But it also works when you are trying to overcome something in your life, like an issue with a coworker or boss, a motivation decline, or even encouraging yourself to live a more balanced, healthy lifestyle.

This especially goes for when people are annoying you at work or home. The more you let annoyances get to you, the less happy you will be. In fact, you’ll be more inclined to lash out harshly at the better things in your life because you let your annoyances get the best of you. Brush it off, and repeat this to yourself when you find your anger coming on strong.

4. “It can work and I can find a way to make it work”

Don’t let low confidence get you down. When you are trying to overcome a problem, reassure yourself that you can make anything happen if you want it to. This is especially great for when you encounter problems outside of your work life, like when you are traveling, fixing something at home, or even trying to make plans in your busy schedule. Even when going through a rough patch of a relationship, say this and increase confidence in yourself and your partner.

5. “I forgive those who have harmed me in my past and peacefully detach from them”

Well said, Dr. Harra. By forgiving those who have wronged you, you are no longer bogging yourself down with that pain. Holding resentment about people who have placed you in harm’s way, completely abandoned you, or broken your heart hurts only you at the end of the day. Forgive yourself, and move on with your life.

6. “Everything is getting better every day”

Allow yourself time. Take one day at a time in this crazy, fast-paced world. You may have encountered an experience you think is rock bottom, but the plus side is that everything can only get better from here on out. Repeat this to yourself at the beginning and end of each day to remind yourself that things will naturally get better. You are working toward a better life, and a better you, daily.

Being positive starts in your mind.
