According to experts, what a man eats can affect his performance in the bedroom. While we typically associate the importance of keeping our bodies properly fueled with health benefits like staying fit and feeling good, we can’t ignore the important role clean eating plays when it comes to intimacy. Especially around the holidays, food tends to be a major part of most social events, so knowing what foods are best is key.
According to Dr. Michael Trombley, board certified physician and medical director of Physician’s E.D. Center and the Huntington Medical Clinic, and author of the confidential report “Seven Secrets Doctors and Drug Companies Don’t Want You to Know about Erectile Dysfunction,” what you eat while trying to maintain a healthy diet may help push back the possibility of erectile dysfunction during intimacy.
Trombley says, “Eat foods high in arginine because it is a semi-essential amino acid that creates nitric oxide, which widen and relaxes arteries and blood vessels, improving blood flow which is so important in eliminating ED.”
Trombley recommends stocking up on these 7 foods to help keep your bedroom game on point.
Turkey doesn’t just have to be for Thanksgiving dinner. With one cooked breast containing 16 grams, the highest amount of arginine is found in turkey breast, but avoid the skin.
Pork loin, another high-protein food, follows shortly after, with an arginine content of 14 grams per rib. It’s also one of the leanest cuts of pork, so it’s lower in fat.
The third best source of arginine, one chicken breast has 70% of your daily recommendation for protein and almost 9 grams of arginine.
4. Pumpkin seeds
A tasty snack for all those who’ve got pumpkins around during the season, one cup of these seeds has almost 7 grams of arginine. Pumpkin seeds are a great source of iron and zinc as well.
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of chickpeas? Hummus! One cup of cooked chickpeas contains 1.3 grams of arginine, so go ahead and load up on that delicious app.
A type of blue-green algae that grows in the sea, spirulina often comes in powder form and can be used to add extra nutrients to smoothies. One cup has 4.6 grams of arginine, as well as high amounts of calcium, iron, potassium, and niacin.
About 1.3 grams of arginine can be found in one cup of lentils. Also found in one cup of lentils is 63% of your daily dietary fiber requirement.
