All the Interesting Diets the Family Has Tried on ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’
The Kardashian family has allowed its adoring public to keep up with them for the last decade. Through all the drama, heartbreak, family trouble, and business excursions, we hang on their every word — and outfit — to stay alert on the newest trends, and of course pop culture knowledge that is the Kardashian crew.
One staple of the show has been each family member’s individual experience with diet, weight, and exercise. We’ve watched Khloe address her body type (a DNA test was even involved), Kourtney adopt an all-natural view on diet and exercise, and Kim have one last pizza binge before embarking on yet another diet plan.
And we’ve done it all with the type of insight into celebrity life that makes you feel like you really know them, and what’s more, can trust their judgment. Some of the diets and wellness tips the Kardashians give — via social media, the show, or their individually curated apps — appear trendy and effective. Others simply contribute to the show’s primary goal — they’re just plain entertaining.
Kourtney drank butter to start her day off
The yogi and source of the most Kardashian Karma gave her followers yet another organic substance to try: Ghee, a special kind of clarified butter that originated in India. A New York City-based dietician told Cosmopolitan the benefits — and downsides — of using ghee like Kourtney did.
Isabel Smith said that Ghee is a source of butyrate, a fatty acid that can improve your ability to control blood sugar spikes, so it can support weight loss as well as gut health and your immune system. However, don’t jump to stock up on the $23 brand Kourtney swears by just yet. Each tablespoon packs 135 calories, so drinking too much will turn your weight loss goals into a weight gain reality.
Kim took the heat for promoting weight-loss lollipops
Arguably the most famous of the Kardashian clan, Kim has partnered with various diet supplements and trends in a mutually beneficial situation (they appear trendier, she makes money). She has sold waist trainers for the perfect Kardashian curves, Sugar Bear Hair gummies for silky Kardashian curls, and Flat Tummy tea to save you a few Kardashian calories.
Kim recently stirred up a bit of controversy promoting Flat Tummy Co.’s “appetite suppressant lollipops.” While she kept her post up, she replaced the ad caption with a lollipop emoji. “You guys… @flattummyco just dropped a new product. They’re Appetite Suppressant Lollipops and they’re literally unreal. They’re giving the first 500 people on their website 15% OFF so if you want to get your hands on some… you need to do it quick! #suckit,” she wrote.
The lollipops contain an appetite suppressant called Satiereal. They aren’t FDA-reviewed (and therefore not FDA approved) since they’re technically supplements — so Kardashian’s approval is all fans knew of before testing out the potentially unhealthy product.
Khloe revealed the 9 foods she frequently eats
Khloe has probably spent the most time of the three Kardashian sisters focusing on her weight, diet, and exercise plans. She experienced significant criticism and came to seemingly healthy terms with a reality most women face: We can’t all look like Kim Kardashian.
So Khloe’s most recent diet (the one her doctor prescribed to her in the early stages of her first pregnancy) was less diet, more meal plan, and 100% safe. Khloe filled her meals with fatty fish, single-ingredient starches (sweet potatoes, brown rice, lentils), leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, and nuts. She cut out all beverages save water and allowed herself poultry from time to time.
“I’m proud of my body. My body weight will always be something that I’ll struggle with for the rest of my life, but I’m finally in a good place and learning to love me for me, and not somebody else’s standards,” she once posted to her website. That’s a statement we can get behind.
So regardless of which Kardashian diet, exercise, or product you choose to use, be sure to run it by a medical professional first (or at least do your research).
