9 Most Awkward Moments From the Royal Wedding

The pomp. The circumstance. The side-eye. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was filled with tradition and majesty. But there were also some super awkward moments that made the event worth watching again and again.

From the congregation to the bride and groom, the royal wedding did not disappoint. Here are some of the best moments (OMG page 7) you might have missed if you focused more on the ceremony’s love and beauty.

When the father of the groom has to take a power nap mid-ceremony, you know something is up. Prince Charles, likely exhausted from that long walk down the aisle with Meghan Markle, looked like he took a catnap — much to Prince William’s surprise.

Although he could not attend at the last minute, the wedding program listed Thomas Markle as the one to walk his daughter down the aisle, People reports. Markle’s father teetered back and forth between being able to attend. But he had to decline when he needed heart surgery.

Although they looked smashing in their color-coordinated yellow attire, George and Amal Clooney appeared as though they were doing double duty: attending a wedding and filming the next Oceans installment. The adorable couple quickly became a meme, likely before the wedding ended.

During the grand departure, a horse in front of the royal couple’s carriage decided he wasn’t into any of this and would rather plow into the crowd. The wedding could have had an entirely different headline if his rider didn’t regain control of his horse as he headed directly toward well-wishers.

Prince Harry attempted to gracefully lift his bride’s veil but ended up tangling her face inside the massive amount of fabric. The look on Harry’s face was priceless as he struggled to find her underneath the miles of sheath.

During Bishop Michael Curry’s beautiful sermon, Kate Middleton delivered a visual smack-down to her stepmother-in-law, Camilla Parker Bowles. Cameras caught Camilla giggling during the impassioned sermon. And Kate, who sat next to Camilla, gave her a side-eye to end all side-eyes. Fortunately, Kate’s eye daggers seemed to shut down Camilla.

Adorable Princess Charlotte had a few “off-script” moments during the wedding. She stuck out her tongue at photographers while riding with her mother to the wedding. And she felt the need to show everyone her fancy shoes after the nuptials. Kicking one foot out is really the best way to make sure no one misses the fabulousness of the footwear.

9. The Brits looked like adolescents during a sex ed talk

The American elements during the wedding definitely brought the event to life. However, much of the British congregation looked uncomfortable and almost giggly during American touches, such as Bishop Curry and even the amazing version of “Stand by Me.” Although the queen, royal cousins, and relatives couldn’t resist looking like fish out of water, Elton John won for best outward expression.
