Is there anything on the planet that Beyoncé can’t do? Just a few months after giving birth to twins, the superstar singer has shredded the baby weight and looks as fit as ever. (It’s no wonder all the haters are trying to say she had plastic surgery.) But, lucky enough for us, Queen Bey has never been one to keep her weight loss secrets to herself. Here’s a look at her tips to losing weight and looking great.
She sets a weight loss ‘motivator’
The singer admitted a few years back that her motivation to lose weight after giving birth to her first child was to be in shape to go on stage. “I didn’t have a lot of time to lose the weight because I scheduled a show three months after I gave birth,” she told Shape magazine back in 2014.
And with new projects in the works now, the mother of three is probably getting in shape for a stage appearance or two in the not too distant future. Of course, us mere mortals don’t have sold-out concerts to motivate us to lose weight. But picking a big event — a high school reunion or swimsuit season — can help keep your weight loss regimen on track.
She eats right (and is a vegan)
One perk of being a celebrity is having access to a nutritionist and personal chef to help tailor a post-pregnancy diet. So it’s no surprise that Beyoncé, who is open about her veganism, has help when it comes to putting a menu together. (Although there are also whispers that she has adopted a special olive and avocado diet since the twins were born.)
While the rest of us probably don’t have nutritionists and personal chefs on hand, we can still take a page out of Beyoncé’s book. She’s a SoulCycle devotee
The “Formation” singer is living proof that enjoying your workout regimen pays dividends. She headed right to SoulCycle classes to kick off her post-twins fitness plan, and works with a personal trainer. She’s so hooked on SoulCycle that she even invited her buddy and fellow Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland to join her! (Hubby Jay Z is also a fan of the classes.)
Take a queue from Mrs. Carter and find a workout that you want to do all the time, whether it’s SoulCycle, dance workouts, or something completely different.
She’s got a solid support group
Jay Z was Beyoncé’s support when she kicked off her weight loss plan, proof that having a support system in any capacity makes losing weight a much simpler task. Have a friend go to the gym with you, or have your significant other try some healthier meals with you. The more support you have, the easier your weight loss journey will be.
She doesn’t strive for perfection
While it may be hard to believe, Beyoncé really did “ease” back into her typically intense workout regimen after her pregnancy. The lesson we can learn from her here? Don’t be so obsessed with losing weight that you’re too hard on yourself. “It’s not about perfection. It’s about purpose,” she told Elle UK in 2016 about the pressure of being a certain size.
She’s tried several different diets
Beyoncé has admitted to her own diet insecurities, like trying plans that ultimately didn’t work. (Remember when she tried the Master Cleanse?) “I have struggled with diets and finding something that works for me,” she said candidly to Elle Magazine in 2015.
Then, when she finally did find something that worked for her, she really stuck to it. This secret of trying regimens until you find something that works is a tip that anyone can use.
She’s learned to embrace her body
If there’s one thing that this superstar has always been good at, it’s being an ambassador for women being confident in their own skin. A big part of that is taking time to take care of yourself, which ultimately will make you feel more confident in chasing your weight loss goals. “Women have to take the time to focus on our mental health,” she told Elle Uk. “Take time for self, for the spiritual, without feeling guilty or selfish.”
