When it comes to #lifegoals, nobody epitomizes the phrase quite like Chrissy Teigen. She’s feisty, she’s gorgeous, and most of all, she’s just as obsessed with food as the rest of us. The model and well-known foodie almost never skips a chance to gush about what she’s cooking and what foods she shies away from. So we dove through some recent interviews to find some of her food hacks. What we found were tips and tricks that are not just easy to duplicate, but as fun and quirky as Teigen herself.
She says no to pancakes
While Teigen has suggested whipping up flapjacks when entertaining at breakfast, they are not something she wants to be eating first thing in the morning. “I can’t do pancakes or else I just want to go to bed,” she tells Delish. She instead opts for a protein-heavy meal to start off the day that includes eggs (which, as it turns out, also helps you stay fuller longer and maintain your weight).

Her go-to dinner is quite healthy
Just one glance at Teigen’s social media posts, and it’s obvious she mixes up the meals she prepares for herself and musical hubby John Legend. But there is one meal she has claimed is her all-time favorite: branzino, which her mom taught her to make. The sea bass dish — which is high in protein, omega-3s and vitamins — is prepared with simple ingredients, including olive oil and rosemary. We probably wouldn’t make this all the time like Teigen does, but it does sound nutritious and delicious.

She gets it from her mama
Teigen has pointed to her mom’s cooking as inspiration for her own. Whether it’s a hearty dinner or a low-carb Thai steak salad, the cookbook author says her mom, whom she calls Pepper, is her muse. She even includes many dishes she grew up with in her books and blog posts. “I used to be embarrassed of Thai food’s weird smells as a little kid,” she tells People. “But now I crave all of the different Thai spices and use endless amounts of garlic in my recipes.

Pickled peppers are a must
You won’t find a ridiculous amount of junk food hiding in the cupboard in Teigen’s kitchen. What you will find, however, are many jars of pickled peppers. She allegedly always has them on hand to either add to her cooking or just simply munch on. Good thing peppers make for an excellent afternoon snack.

Lick those chips!
Teigen takes her low-carb kick to the extreme when it comes to her love for Doritos. “I lick off the nacho cheese seasoning and put the chips back in the bag,” she tells Delish. “You still get all the flavor, not all the carbs!” The one time she seems to indulge in a full chip? If she’s treating herself to a Doritos Locos Taco from Taco Bell.

When it comes to work …
Of course, getting ready for a big photo shoot requires a more strict diet. That being said, you aren’t likely to find Teigen posting pictures of green juices ahead of a Sports Illustrated shoot. You’re more likely to see pics of paleo-friendly meals in all their lean-protein-and-veggie goodness. (She then follows up with a list of all the junk food she’s going to eat one the shoot is done.)
