Christina Aguilera Reveals the Exact Diet That Led to Her 49 Pound Weight Loss
Pop icon Christina Aguilera has never been one to shy away from showing off her figure, whether she was wisp thin or delightfully curvy. But the songstress really turned heads a few years ago when she lost 49 pounds and looked both her healthiest, and her happiest. And lucky for us, she chose to share her meal plan with the world.
Here’s the diet Christina Aguilera used to shed nearly 50 pounds. (The snack on page 5 may surprise you.)
First: De-stressing fueled her weight loss
Aguilera admitted that she had trouble losing weight at first, even though she was trying to adjust her eating habits. The problem? Too much stress. Pop Workouts reveals that Aguilera was too busy and stressed while she was a coach on The Voice. (Stress, of course, releases cortisol into your body, which causes you to reach for unhealthy snacks in order to comfort yourself.) Taking time off from celebrity engagements allowed her to de-stress and focus on losing weight.

Food delivery was a big help
Aguilera broke down her diet for Life & Style Magazine. One of the keys to putting the menu in place was to have her meals somewhat prepped for her! Pop Workouts tells us that Aguilera used a meal service called The Fresh Diet, which delivered low-carb meal options to her. The plan that Aguilera was on reportedly clocked in at 1,600 calories a day.

Most important meal of the day
Most effective weight loss plans kick off with a healthy breakfast to start the day right. This holds true for Aguilera’s weight loss menu. She reportedly started her day off with the “ideal combo” of protein and good fats, munching on half an avocado, turkey bacon, and some blueberries.
Next: What about the rest of her meals.
Lunch and dinner
Naturally, the rest of Aguilera’s meals from The Fresh Diet were as healthy as her breakfast option. A typical lunch included salad or vegetables with chicken, and dinner would be chicken or fish — both sources of protein and healthy fat — with veggies and a little rice. It’s noted that Aguilera loves spicy food and would pep up her meals for flavor, but that fattening condiments were a no-no. (She apparently steered clear of putting creamy, fatty dressing on her salad.)
Next: The most interesting part of her diet.
Aguilera’s meal plan included mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, but they weren’t your run-of-the-mill nuts and fruit types of snacks. While mid-morning celery with almond butter sounds a little more normal, her afternoon snack of prawn cocktail is a little less ordinary. (AOL revealed that Aguilera was a big fan of snacking on the shrimp.)
Next: But wait, there’s more…
A little splurge
Even the most devoted dieter has weaknesses. And one of the best ways to stay on track is to allow yourself just a little bit of guilty pleasure. A big part of Aguilera’s diet plan was cutting out alcohol. But she did, however, allow herself one glass of red wine in the evening as her dessert.
Next: Alcohol wasn’t the only thing nixed from the menu.
What absolutely wasn’t on the menu
It’s unclear if Aguilera ever gave herself a cheat day while she was on her 49-pound weight loss journey. But even if she did, there were certain foods and restaurants that had to be completely avoided. This reportedly included Nate’n Al Delicatessen, which serves up things like pastrami eggs benedict and a roasted turkey dinner. Aguilera reportedly still avoids eating there.
