You’ll Be Surprised to Learn the Real Reason These Celebrities Quit Smoking Marijuana
It often appears as if celebrities face little consequences for their actions. Many have the money to bail themselves out of situations the everyday middle-class person couldn’t, while others have made their love for typically taboo activities a part of their brand.
These celebrities were notorious for their love of pot but notably, quit smoking weed. Each had their own reason, but we have to say, this Wu-Tang Clan rapper’s reason shocked us the most (page 7).
1. Brad Pitt quit for his family and his divorce
The father of six quit smoking weed twice. In 2012 he admitted he frequently smoked in the 1990s to counteract his depression. “I was hiding out from the celebrity thing, I was smoking way too much dope, I was sitting on the couch and just turning into a doughnut,” he said.
Pitt told GQ he quit for good when he and now ex-wife Angelina Jolie started their family. He reportedly quit all substances — alcohol included — following their divorce.
2. Lady Gaga thought she had a problem
Few questioned that the star who famously showed up to red carpets in human-sized Dinosaur eggs and draped raw meat all over herself smoked pot, at least on occasion. What many of Lady Gaga’s fans don’t know is how the herb wreaked havoc on her personal life.
In 2013 she had to carry a large portion of her ‘Born This Way’ tour. “I was living on a totally other psychedelic plane, numbing myself completely, and looking back I do see now that some of it had to do with my hip pain,” she said. “I have been addicted to it, and it’s ultimately related to anxiety coping.”

3. Natalie Portman believes she’s too old for it
“When I was in Harvard I smoked weed every day, I cheated every test and snorted all the yay,” Portman rapped in the famous Saturday Night Live skit ‘Natalie’s Rap.” While the cheating and cocaine appeared an exaggeration, Portman admitted the weed line was true.
She told Entertainment Weekly how she loves stoner comedies but no longer smokes.”I smoked weed in college, but I haven’t smoked in years. I wish I was that cool, but I’m like an old lady now. I’m in bed by 10 p.m. I can’t do that anymore.”
4. Lil’ Wayne got sober in jail
The same rapper who wrote a song titled “Kush” and lyrics like “smokin’ weed by the acre” put down his joint for good after serving eight months of a one-year sentence at Rikers Island. He talked with MTV News about quitting and called performing a “big difference” sober compared to high.
“I almost jumped in the crowd. I’m like I’m sober, I’m sweating. I’m tasting my sweat … My sweat used to taste like weed … I had threw my glasses, I don’t even need these. I could see everything right now. But yeah man, it’s a great feeling.”

5. Mark Wahlberg’s daughter smelled it on him
Wahlberg accepted Variety’s Indie Impact Award in 2011, joking that the trophy resembled a bong. “But I don’t use those anymore,” he said, then explained why he quit.
He and his daughter were driving around and caught a whiff of weed. When she asked what it was, he told her it was a skunk, not marijuana. “Then she said, ‘Sometimes Daddy smells like that!'” he told the crowd. “So I knew I had to quit.”

6. Jimmy Fallon inadvertently got Miley Cyrus to quit
She’s rolled a joint on stage in Amsterdam, discussed her “happy drugs” with national publications, and started the Happy Hippie foundation. So what on earth could get Miley Cyrus to quit weed, even if only temporarily? She told talk show host Jimmy Fallon what inspired her to quit smoking.
“You, without knowing it, were kind of a reason for this … I’ve always been very stoned on your shows. To sit here, and to talk about what I’m doing, I want to be clear about it. Because I’m actually the most passionate about this record.” She also told Fallon she also got scared after she had a reoccurring dream she died from being “too stoned” while giving an SNL monologue.
7. RZA wanted to direct movies
First GZA, then RZA. In 2012, five years after his fellow Wu-Tang Clan member gave up pot, RZA quit in order to focus on directing movies.
“Making music and weed kind of went together for me,” he told Chelsea Handler on Chelsea Lately. “Many years, I’ve been in the studio making music, making hits, and weed was always there, but I’ve transferred myself to directing now. I’m a movie director. You gotta play it sober. I’ve been playing it sober. Superman focus. Superman stamina, zooming in.”
