These Are What Donald and Melania Trump Claim Are the Secrets to Their Marriage
The media has uncovered multiple occasions when it looked like Donald and Melania Trump might not get along too well. However, the couple has made it clear they have an extremely compatible marriage — and that is because of the way they work together in their relationship. Here are the reasons the couple says their marriage works so well.
How did Donald and Melania Trump meet?
The president met his first lady at a Manhattan party during Fashion Week in 1998. He was with another date. Melania Trump refused to give him her phone number. Instead, she insisted that she take his, and she would decide whether to call him. They began dating that same year and married in 2005 in a lavish ceremony followed by a reception at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

They never fight
When Greta Van Susteren interviewed Melania Trump in 2016, the first lady made one thing clear: “We don’t have fights,” she said. “I’m with my own brains; he’s with his own brains.” While it doesn’t seem like this is feasible being married to someone like Donald Trump, Melania Trump has always been a quiet woman. It’s possible she simply does not like to fight back. Regardless, she said it plays a huge role in their successful marriage.

… But they don’t always agree
Melania Trump agrees with Donald Trump on his immigration stance, saying she paid her dues to get her citizenship and feels that anyone who wants to live here should do the same. However, she is quick to tell him when she disagrees with something he says or does. She told CNN when Trump says something inappropriate, she talks to him about it. Melania Trump also said though she has conversations with him about his behavior, she does not try to change him. “We are both very independent,” she said.

In a 1999 interview with Howard Stern, Melania Trump admitted she and her husband have sex “even more” than once a day. The awkward exchange occurred when Stern was on a phone call with the now-president. He asked him to put his girlfriend on the phone and then proceeded to ask how often they have sex. At the time, Melania Trump probably didn’t think the conversation would resurface during her husband’s run for the presidency.

Melania Trump plays a ‘traditional role’
Donald Trump considered a presidential bid in 1999. And the public questioned how it would be for someone like Melania Trump to be a first lady. (They were not yet married at the time.) Melania Trump told The New York Times she would play a more traditional role. “I would be very traditional. Like Betty Ford or Jackie Kennedy,” she said. “I would support him.” Today, it appears she stuck to her word. She keeps out of the spotlight and does not challenge her husband’s opinions or words.

She keeps a watchful eye on their son
With Donald Trump being the president, Melania Trump has kept the traditional role of caring for their only son, Barron. He is her main focus, and she cheers her husband on in the background. When Donald Trump took office, Melania Trump stayed in New York City with Barron, so he could finish his school year. She does not have a nanny for him. “I have a chef, and I have my assistant, and that’s it. I do it myself,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “… Those hours with your child are really important ones.”

She stays out of his political life
Melania Trump made it clear when Donald Trump announced his presidency that she did not want to be in the spotlight. Although that is impossible for a first lady, she meant when it came to politics, she did not want to be a part of his campaign. Melania Trump wanted to keep her life and political thoughts private. “I have my own mind, I am my own person, and I think my husband likes that about me,” she said of her choice to stay out of his campaign.
