Donald Trump and Kanye West’s Friendship Is Proving to Be Rock Solid, But Kim Kardashian and Fans Aren’t Impressed

Seemingly out of nowhere, Kanye West become one of Donald Trump’s most vocal defenders. Though he claims not to agree with the president’s politics, he went on a Twitter rant about the president, which troubled many but likely surprised very few.

The aftermath has led to plenty of backlash and speculations about his mental health (page 7). Here’s how Trump responded to the tweets, and how Kim Kardashian reacted to the news (page 6).

Kanye called Trump his brother on Twitter, and Trump responded to the rapper’s support. They’ve met at least once in “real life,” and their support of each other online seems to solidify their appreciation of each other. Plenty of other celebrities weren’t too happy about those tweets, though.

Celebrities such as Rhianna seemed to unfollow West after going on a “rant” on Twitter. Some sources noted that a few Kardashians didn’t follow him at the time — Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian included — suggesting they may have unfollowed him after his rant.

Trump tweeted out to his followers: “Kanye West has performed a great service to the Black Community – Big things are happening and eyes are being opened for the first time in Decades – Legacy Stuff!” Unfortunately, not all Kanye fans followed suit.

Not everyone approved of what Kanye had to say. Some celebrities — even those who considered West a friend — may have called him out on Twitter. John Legend wrote, “I love that great, brilliant artists have the power to imagine a better future. But artists can’t be blind to the truth.”

Even though Kardashian is one of only three accounts her husband follows on Twitter, she had no idea he was back on the platform. “I didn’t know he had his Twitter again until I started seeing tweets come in from other people,” she told Ellen DeGeneres.

During her talk with Ellen, Kardashian did her best to explain that the content of her husband’s tweets wasn’t a surprise — at least, not to her. She said Kanye regularly brings up the same topics in everyday conversation with her. In other words, he wasn’t being erratic; he was just being himself.

Both Kanye West and Donald Trump have had their mental health questioned, and Kardashian may have hated that part of the incident’s aftermath the most.

She said, “Mental Health is no joke and the media needs to stop spitting that out so casually.” His thoughts, she promises, really were his own.
