Best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, actress Emilia Clarke is certainly in fantastic shape. And while many celebrities chalk their figures up to spending hours with personal trainers or having personal chefs make their meals, Clarke has revealed her own tips for staying svelte — and they’re not what you might expect. In fact, her diet and exercise tips are surprisingly realistic and easy to follow.
She does eat clean …
There’s no doubt about it: Clarke does eat a healthy diet to maintain her weight. She loosely follows the Clean and Lean Diet, which consists mainly of lean protein, veggies, and unprocessed food. The idea is that food should be simple and balanced, so there’s no weighing portions or counting calories — just eating mindfully.

While Clarke definitely has to workout to stay in such great shape, when it comes to fitness, she believes in quality over quantity. According to her trainer, Lean and Clean Diet creator James Duigan, she does interval training, a highly effective and relatively quick series of moves designed to tone the body and increase stamina in a short amount of time. We shouldn’t have to punish our bodies, says Duigan, to see results.
