Here’s How Prince Harry Will Pay Homage to Princess Diana at the Royal Wedding

In his first interview after proposing to Meghan Markle, Prince Harry made it clear he thinks his bride to be would have been great friends with his late mother, Princess Diana. So perhaps it’s no great surprise the couple is sneaking little tributes to the Princess of Wales into their May 19 wedding. Here’s a look at how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will pay homage to the People’s Princess at the royal wedding. (The tribute on page 6 is particularly touching.)

In fact, Prince Harry has been paying tribute to his mother throughout his entire engagement to Meghan Markle. Meghan’s engagement ring consists of two small diamonds which Prince Harry picked from Diana’s personal collection. A largest diamond at the center of the ring was selected from Botswana, where Harry has a foundation set up to help children with HIV — an endeavor that was very close to Diana’s heart.

Royal wedding florist Philippa Craddock will be decking St. George’s Chapel with white roses on Harry and Meghan’s big day. The white rose was a personal favorite of Princess Diana’s, and is the focal point of the White Garden at Kensington Palace that is set up in her memory. A very large order of roses was seen leaving Craddock’s shop just days before the wedding.

This detail hasn’t been confirmed yet. But royal watchers are speculating Meghan will wear Princess Diana’s wedding tiara when she walks down the aisle. The Princess of Wales notoriously wore a family heirloom aptly called the Spencer Tiara, instead of a tiara from the royal family’s collection, when she wed Prince Charles.

Yes, an exclusive royal wedding gift registry recently emerged. However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s main gift wish was for their guests to donate to select charities. Prince Harry has long been involved in many charitable endeavors, something his mother was known for when she was alive.

A big fuss has been made over what members of Meghan Markle’s family have — more like, have not — been invited to the royal wedding. What many people aren’t aware of is that members of Princess Diana’s family have been invited. There was a very public rift between the Spencers and the royal family even before Diana’s tragic death in 1997, and it has taken years for the two sides to mend their fences.

Not only are Diana’s siblings invited to the wedding. Her sister, Lady Jane Fellowes. will also give a reading during the ceremony. “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle both feel honored that Lady Jane will be representing her family and helping to celebrate the memory of the late Princess on the wedding day,” Kensington Palace announced in a statement.

There are still so many details about the royal wedding that have been kept under raps. So it’s completely possible there will be more tributes to Princess Diana during the ceremony we don’t know about yet. Knowing how much Prince Harry pays tribute to her, there’s little doubt there will be some surprise homages throughout the occasion.
