Drink less alcohol
Having a glass of wine might help take the edge off after a long day — and also lower blood pressure — but drinking too much alcohol can also impact blood pressure levels. “Drinking more than moderate amounts of alcohol can actually raise blood pressure by several points,” writes the Mayo Clinic. “It can also reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications,” it adds.
Lay off the caffeine
Caffeine’s impact on blood pressure levels is tricky. On one end, those that drink it regularly might not experience any kind of spike in blood pressure. But, on the other hand, it can drastically increase levels in those that don’t drink it often. Either way, it is best to consume caffeine in moderation.
In addition to drinking less alcohol and lowering caffeine consumption, quitting smoking can also be beneficial to your health and blood pressure levels. Those that quit smoking experience a significant decrease in high blood pressure levels.
