How Ayesha and Steph Curry Balance Work, Marriage, Parenthood, and Fame

On July 2, 2018, Ayesha and Steph Curry became the proud parents of their first son, Canon. Their family of five — including two young daughters, Riley and Ryan — is going strong, just like they are.

But the Currys aren’t just parents or each others’ best friends. Ayesha Curry is a celebrity chef, TV personality, and author. And if you don’t follow basketball, you’re probably at least aware that Steph Curry is really good at making baskets and winning championships. One of the best, in fact.

How does this power couple handle married life while balancing their ever-demanding jobs, their three kids, and everything that comes with celebrity life? It’s not easy. But they manage.

In an interview with Parents magazine, Steph and Ayesha Curry opened up about their relationship and how they handle the ups and downs of parenthood.

Ayesha expressed her gratitude for Steph, especially since, in many ways, they’re opposites. “The thing I love about him is that he’s not too cool for school. He’ll get down on the floor and play with the girls. He’ll put on dress”‘up clothes if he has to, and he’s very patient, which is something I’m not. We balance each other out.”

They also do what they can to protect their kids. Privacy isn’t always a guarantee when you’re as famous as the Currys. But they’re as protective of their kids as any parent tries to be — especially on social media.

When asked about their oldest daughter Riley, the couple admitted the young girl doesn’t realize she’s the daughter of celebrities — or that she’s sort of a celebrity herself. Steph acknowledged that Riley recognizes when people are snapping photos of her, and Ayesha chimed in with her distaste.

“That breaks my heart a little as a parent,” she said. “She’ll put her hand up and be like, ‘Mom, she’s trying to take a picture of me.’ Then I give a look that says, ‘Put your phone down.’

And because both adult Currys are active on social media, they have their own “rules” in place for deciding whether or not to post certain photos of their kids online.

Steph explained: “We’ll just show each other a photo and ask, ‘Should I post this?’ … but we want to share stuff that’s meaningful and not have to be guarded. But there is a balance. We keep certain moments to ourselves.”

Both Ayesha and Steph posted separate photos on Instagram announcing Canon’s arrival. Ayesha’s featured the newborn and his two older sisters together for the first time.

When it comes down to it, fame doesn’t change the fact that parenthood isn’t always easy.

Steph recalled: “A friend who’s a rapper was over at the house yesterday. He has two kids, and we were sitting there swapping stories about fatherhood—diapers and bottles and day care. Lots of new material for our conversations.”

He also said — like many dads — there’s a lot he’s looking forward to in the years to come.

“Taking Riley to her first day of school was a whirlwind. I can’t imagine what middle school is going to be like, and high school, and graduation. All those little checkpoints are going to be fun, and there will be ups and downs along the way.”

From what we can tell, this family of five can survive anything that comes their way — maybe even a sixth member of the family someday.
