Inside Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s Extravagant Wedding (Including the 13-Layer Cake)
Long before they delved into politics, people were talking about the Trump family. And while people don’t always have a favorable view of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s relationship — it is said to be void of romance — their wedding day looked straight out of a fairy tale.
The couple tied the knot in 2009. But people are still talking about their extravagant nuptials, especially the 13-layer cake on page 5.
Naturally, they married on a Trump property
Ivanka and Jared married at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. It features a lavishly decorated 5,000-square-foot ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows and crystal chandeliers. And the venue only allows one wedding to take place at a time, so the party received the staff’s full attention.
Next: The affair included some pretty high-profile guests.
There were over 500 attendees
Of the 500 guests who attended the wedding, many of them were high profile. Rupert Murdoch, Regis Philbin, and Anna Wintour were there. And so were Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Barbara Walters, Rudy Giuliani, and Andrew Cuomo, who was then the attorney general of New York.
Next: Ivanka’s dress was custom.
Ivanka’s dress was a Vera Wang original
Ivanka looked beautiful in her dress, which was a custom Vera Wang creation inspired by Grace Kelly (with a value of a whopping $50,000). It featured layers of Chantilly and Lyon lace and three-quarter sleeves
Next: Ivanka had no problem finding jewelry for her big day.
The bride wore jewelry from her own collection
Ivanka had an easy time finding her wedding jewels — they were all from her namesake collection. She rocked a pair of diamond drop earrings, an art deco-inspired bracelet, and a hair accessory valued at $45,000. Her bridesmaids all wore her jewelry, as well.
Next: We wonder whether it was hard to cut into this amazing cake.
Layer after layer of cake
Perhaps one of the most famous details about the wedding was the cake. Designed and baked by confection artist Sylvia Weinstock, it featured 13 lavish layers. And Weinstock made sure it tasted as good as it looked.
Next: Not every wedding detail was perfect.
Apparently, Donald Trump’s speech was terrible
It’s customary for the father of the bride to give a wedding toast, and apparently, Donald Trump delivered. But guests say his speech wasn’t good. One guest even called it “the most pathetic, lame, embarrassing speech I’ve heard in a long time.”
Next: The couple gave their guests some generous parting gifts.
The charming wedding favors
Ivanka and Jared gave their guests white Havaianas flip-flops with their names on them. Ivanka’s mother, Ivana Trump, and her bridal party also received flip-flops — but hers were encrusted with Swarovski crystals.
