It Turns out Meghan Markle Wears the Pants in Her Relationship With Prince Harry

There’s no denying that Meghan Markle is doing things her way. Although she has altered things in her life ahead of marrying Prince Harry, the actress is clearly a strong personality bringing a take-charge attitude to the monarchy. So perhaps it’s not surprising to hear that she “wears the trousers” in her relationship with Prince Harry.

Here’s a look at the ways Meghan Markle has the upper hand in her union — and what that says about Prince Harry himself (page 5).

Meghan has already become a royal rule-breaker

Like Kate Middleton before her, Meghan Markle has broken a few royal rules ahead of becoming part of the royal family. She has even ruffled the feathers of a few critics for wearing what she wants and being more forthcoming when meeting royal watchers. It’s no wonder she’s the reported “dominant one” in her relationship.

Meghan is clearly not letting anyone discourage her from having what she wants on her wedding day. She and Harry are getting married in May, which goes against royal family superstition. Plus, she’s forgoing the tradition of serving fruit cake in favor of a special lemon elderflower wedding cake.

Royal wedding aside, Meghan still appears to call the shots in her relationship. Perhaps the biggest sign was when she took to redecorating her’s and Harry’s new residence, Nottingham Cottage. As Telegraph reveals, Meghan revamped the cozy space after moving in to make it feel more like a “California bungalow” than a two-bed at Kensington Palace.

When Meghan assumes royal duties, there is no doubt that she will bring the same take-charge attitude to her work. Since she is already an established philanthropist, it’s expected that she will choose charities and outreach work that are to her liking, and somewhat separate from the work that Harry does.

Royal family biographer Andrew Morton tells People that Meghan’s assertiveness is exactly what Prince Harry finds attractive about her. ““She is a strong, opinionated woman who has her own ideas about things, and that’s one of the things he loves about her,” a royal insider adds. Her dominance in the relationship has also helped Harry to put his partying days behind him. Plus, he has become more open about grieving the death of his mother, Princess Diana.

The Suits star was established before she began dating the prince, setting her apart from his socialite ex-girlfriends. “I don’t think Harry was ever going to marry a nice upper-class girl from the (English) counties—it’s just not him,” the royal insider tells People.

Clearly, Meghan Markle’s strong will and modern touch will have an impact on the royal family. It will become especially ear in the coming years as Prince Harry and his older brother — heir to the throne, Prince William — become the faces of the firm and put their modern spin on things.
