Ivana Trump Reveals the Tragic Way She Found Out About Donald’s Affair With Marla Maples
Donald Trump has been dominating the headlines not only for political reasons but also because of his love life. It’s no secret The Donald has been involved in many high-profile relationships with beautiful women. One reason Trump’s love life is always in the spotlight is that he’s been married a few times.
Trump’s first wife, Ivana, has been vocal about her ex-husband’s romantic relationship with Marla Maples. She also touches on the topic in her book, Raising Trump. Here’s the tragic way Ivana Trump found out about Donald’s affair with Marla Maples.

There had been some speculation about Donald Trump’s fidelity. Rumors began to swirl that Donald was having an affair with several women. Some of the women he was rumored to be linked with were figure skater Peggy Fleming, actress Robin Givens, and even Carolyne Roehm and Georgette Mosbacher, two of Ivana’s friends, reported Newsweek.

The first meeting between Ivana and Marla in December 1989 was not a friendly one. Ivana said Maples confronted her while she was having lunch with Donald and their children at an Aspen ski resort. “This young blond woman came up to me out of the blue and said, ‘I’m Marla and I love your husband. Do you?’” said Ivana in her book. Ivana responded by telling Maples to “get lost,” reports the Associated Press.

Donald and Ivana Trump divorced in 1992 after 15 years of marriage. It resulted in one of the most expensive celebrity divorce settlements and child support settlements. Ivana walked away with $25 million. Donald made sure to draft a prenuptial. The agreement required him to pay Ivana $14 million in cash, $350,000 in annual alimony, and child support payments of $300,000 each year. Ivana also received their Greenwich, Connecticut, mansion and a Trump Plaza apartment.

The impact of Donald’s affair was felt for many months after the news got out about his relationship with former model Marla Maples. Ivana said their children were deeply hurt by what happened. She said in the book that Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric didn’t speak to Donald for one year, reports the Associated Press.

Ivana Marie Trump has previously stated that she alone raised Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka following her and Donald’s divorce. “When each one finished college, I said to my ex-husband, ‘Here is the finished product. Now it’s your turn,’” she wrote.
Ivana makes it crystal clear in her book that she was responsible for the children before the divorce and had sole custody after it. “Some people — including Hillary Clinton — consider [the kids] to be Donald Trump’s finest accomplishments,” she wrote, “I believe the credit for raising such great kids belongs to me.”

During her interview on CBS Sunday Morning, Ivana called Marla Maples a “showgirl” and a “nobody” who would “never achieve anything in her life.” Ivana accuses Maples of flirting with Donald while they were still married. “Well, she was flirting. I think she was flirting and she got away with it,” said Ivana. On the other hand, the former Mrs. Trump says she’s not really sure who to blame for the affair. Ivana also took a jab at Donald’s current wife during an interview with Good Morning America by saying since she’s Donald’s first wife, she’s the first lady.

Previously, Ivana Trump told ABC News she thinks she would make a great first lady. Her statement issued veiled criticisms of Melania often echoed elsewhere. “Would I straighten up the White House in 14 days? Absolutely. Can I give the speech for 45 minutes without [a] teleprompter? Absolutely. Can I read a contract … [and] negotiate? Can I entertain? Absolutely. But I would not really like to be there. I like my freedom,” she said.

Surprisingly, Marla told People she wants to make up with Ivana. After more than two decades, she is ready to extend an olive branch and make peace with her ex-husband’s first wife. However, Ivana is not ready to let bygones be bygones. “[Marla] asked to apologize to me in the Daily Mail in London. They asked if I accepted the apology and I said no. Why should I? She broke my marriage!” Ivana said to the New York Post.

Ivana says she and Donald are now on good terms. She mentioned in a CBS Sunday Morning interview that she and the president speak once a week. She also said she has encouraged him to continue using Twitter. Furthermore, Ivana said she was offered the post of ambassador to the Czech Republic (where she was born), but turned the offer down, saying she already has a perfect life.
