‘Jersey Shore’s’ Mike ‘The Situation’ Reveals He’s Been Sober for 2 Years and What Happened When He Hit Rock Bottom
He’s known as “The Situation” on the fist-pumping MTV reality show Jersey Shore. Mike Sorrentino rose to fame during the first season when he and the gang partied many a night at local dance clubs. However, the wild life soon became a problem for the reality star, now 35.
Here we’ll delve into the recent ups and downs in the life of “The Situation” from celebrating a sobriety milestone to pleading guilty to tax fraud. See the woman who’s stood by him (page 3) and what it was like when he hit rock bottom from substance abuse (pages 4-5).
1. He celebrated a sobriety milestone
Sorrentino recently celebrated the milestone of being sober for two years. “28 months clean and sober,” the reality star captioned his May 2018 Instagram photo of a Narcotics Anonymous medallion.
The MTV star has said he hopes to set a “good example” for the “recovery world” that “it is possible to have fun and dance in the club without drinking.”

2. He pleaded guilty to tax evasion
The Situation’s sobriety milestone comes just a few months after he pleaded guilty to tax evasion. He faces up to five years behind bars. He was charged with filing false tax returns in 2010 and 2012 and not paying taxes on $8.9 million in income.
The court granted his lawyer’s request for a delay in sentencing, now set for June 20, 2018. Sorrentino, on probation, also received permission to travel to Florida for the Jersey Shore Family Vacation reunion show. A requirement was he not consume any alcohol.

3. His fiancé has stood by him
Sorrentino and his college sweetheart, Lauren Pesce, announced their engagement in April 2018. The two dated almost four years during college but took a break as Sorrentino rose to fame on the MTV reality show. They later rekindled their relationship.
Pesce, remained by his side throughout his legal woes — and when he hit rock bottom due to drug problems. More on that coming up.

4. His drug abuse was apparent on Jersey Shore
In 2012, during the taping of Season 5 of Jersey Shore, The Situation’s hard partying ways were worse than ever. He was clearly on something when the cast went camping. He paced back and forth near the campfire as his friends asked what was wrong. Worried someone was going to jump out at them, he eventually hid out in a tent.
Soon after taping the season, he entered a 60-day stint in rehab for addiction to prescription medication. When that was done, his website released a statement thanking fans, friends, and family for their support.

5. He became addicted again in 2015
The MTV reality star had a setback in 2015 when he was treated with painkillers after cracking ribs at the gym. Pesce pleaded with him not to go on the pills. “You know [painkillers] are not good for you — whether they’re doctor prescribed or not,” she said. “You’ve been down this road before.”
But he used the doctor’s orders as an excuse to go back on painkillers, he said. Eventually, he again sought help and has been sober since then.

6. Plans for the future
Although he faces possible jail time, Sorrentino has put on a brave face, with Pesce’s support. He is happy to “Netflix and chill” with her most nights — including sometimes watching old Jersey Shore episodes.
The two say they plan to tie the knot soon. Speculation was it might even happen on Jersey Shore Family Vacation Season 2. “We’ve been ready for this, so we’re definitely not looking for a long engagement,” Sorrentino said. One of his most important priorities? “Having a family and kids.”

7. The Situation’s other shows and business ventures
Although he’s best known for Jersey Shore, The Situation has also appeared on Season 11 of Dancing with the Stars. (He was eliminated during the fourth week.) He’s tried various business ventures, including creating vitamin and clothing lines and a fitness DVD series. He launched a rap career, releasing one single.
Abercrombie & Fitch reportedly offered him $10,000 not to wear the company’s clothing on Jersey Shore.
