Katherine Heigl Debuts Photos of Her New Bikini Body (Plus, the Surprising Way Meghan Markle Is Involved)

If it seems like we haven’t seen actress Katherine Heigl in a while, it’s because she’s been living the mommy life. But the Grey’s Anatomy alum came back on the scene 14 months after giving birth to a baby boy, and she’s looking more fit than ever. Heigl took to Instagram to show off her transformed body and share her fitness inspiration with all her fans. In a lengthy post, Heigl shows some side-by-side photos of herself as she has gone through her weight loss journey. One refreshing aspect of the post is that the actress admits the process took a long time — she isn’t one of those celebrities that magically loses her baby weight overnight. “It’s been almost 14 months since Joshua Jr was born and it has taken me about that long to really get back in shape,” she writes.

When it came to revamping her eating habits, Heigl chose to go for a healthy menu as opposed to a restrictive one favored by many other celebrities. “The years of deprivation, counting every single calorie, completely eliminating major food groups and setting unreasonable weight goals are over,” she writes. “Low calorie meals are an important part of losing weight for me … So I have to be somewhat mindful of what and how much I’m eating.” She also gives kudos to EatingWell for helping her plan meals.

“I devote no less than 3 days a week to exercise that suits my body type, like yoga and long hikes,” Heigl writes in her blog. She also credits Kayla Itsines’ new app Sweat — which boasts easy-to-follow workouts that get you into bikini body shape — for helping keep her motivated and pushing towards her weight loss goals.

It’s well known that having a new baby comes with a lack of sleep. But Heigl insists that she isn’t deprived of getting enough Zs. “That baby has been sleeping through the night since he was almost three months old,” she writes in her blog. “I get PLENTY of sleep. At least eight hours a night.” Lucky her!

While Heigl is certainly a confident woman, replacing a well-loved character on any show surely added some pressure. Heigl mentions in her Instagram post that starting the job was also motivation for getting into tip-top shape.

Whether it’s for work or for play, Heigl has some advice that anyone can follow. “My best weight loss advice is to start every morning by saying out loud a positive mantra of your choice about your body,” she writes in her blog. “The difference I’ve found in doing the work with a loving and positive attitude versus an anxious, frustrated and negative one is that the weight really does seem to just fall away with less struggle.”
