Does Kelly Clarkson’s Dramatic Weight Loss Go Against Everything She’s Said About Her Body in the Past?
If there’s anyone who’s seemingly always comfortable in her own skin, it’s Kelly Clarkson. From American Idol hopeful to superstar, we’ve watched her mature right before our eyes. And now that she’s a judge on The Voice, fans get to experience Kelly’s high energy.
Lately, however, Kelly’s looked noticeably slimmer than she has in recent years. And given what she’s said about her body in the past (page 5), fans are wondering whether her weight loss goes against her body-positive message.
1. Kelly has lost a noticeable 40 pounds
Life & Style also reminds us Kelly gave birth to her second child a little in 2016. Her weight loss, along with her parenting duties and career, makes her slim physique all the more impressive.

2. She’s given her diet a major overhaul to achieve her new look
Weight loss this extreme takes major change, particularly when it comes to diet. OK! Magazine notes Kelly’s swapped out her usual sugary treats for raw vegetables. She also thrives on a high-protein diet, which helps give her long-term energy for those tougher workouts.
Lucky for Kelly, she also has the help of a chef and personal trainer to get her into shape. “We have a chef and her name is Lisa and she makes these amazing things,” Kelly told Life & Style.

3. We remember when she slammed this body critic on Twitter
If you troll Kelly on Twitter, you can expect her to lash right back. CNN reports on July 4, 2017, Kelly tweeted a heartfelt note thanking those in service for all that they do for our freedom. In response, one Twitter user commented, “You’re fat.”
She didn’t let it get to her, however. Instead, she commented back, “and still f***ing awesome.” This just goes to show how confident she is in her own skin — and fans loved it.

4. Kelly says no one who judges you ‘actually cares about your health’
There are plenty of folks willing to give Kelly diet and exercise advice, but she explains she can see through all of the faux concern. She told Redbook that no matter what advice anyone is willing to give, “no one actually cares about your health. They just care about aesthetics.”
“People should just concentrate on their own lives and their own health and their own happiness, and whatever that looks like for you, be happy with it,” Kelly said.
Next: Kelly has mentioned she’s happiest when she looks like this.
5. ‘It’s when I’m fat that I’m happy,’ she’s said in the past
A statement made by Kelly previously has fans wondering whether her current weight loss reads as somewhat hypocritical. “It’s when I’m fat that I’m happy,” Kelly told Redbook in November 2017. She goes on to explain that weight gain “represents happiness” for her emotionally. “For me, when I’m skinny is usually when I’m not doing well.”
We’re hoping Kelly’s weight loss is a positive change for her and not representative of a bigger issue. She certainly looks happy — but who knows what’s brewing beneath the surface.
Next: Kelly says her weight has been the subject of controversy for years.
6. She says the media has picked apart her body even when she was at her thinnest
Even when she was much slimmer, Kelly noted people would still comment on her weight. She told People that even when she was really thin on American Idol back in 2002, she was still one of the bigger girls. And people would make comments to her regarding her body all the time.
“I’ve never had a problem shutting people down,” Kelly reminded us. She also said she’s never felt a strong need to adhere to one size, and she’s fine with her body being in constant flux.

7. Kelly has fought with bulimia in the past, and her new goals are all for her health
Kelly has struggled with self-acceptance more than she lets on. People notes the star even dealt with bulimia in her early teens in a quest for thinness. The publication also says she told Attitude magazine that she went through some seriously dark times in her life, and as a result, she became thin. But “people had no idea I was unhappy oddly enough because I appeared healthy.”
Now, she said she’s allowing herself to live a life that’s in constant flux to follow her dreams and stay happy.
Next: Some fans are concerned about the difference between what she says and what she does.
8. Does her new dramatic slim down make her a hypocrite?
While Kelly has certainly mentioned in the past that weight loss for her could signal she’s in distress, that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s in a bad place currently. Further, it also doesn’t mean she’s being hypocritical.
As she has mentioned before, she allows her body to change as she pleases without stressing out about it. And Inquisitr notes Kelly seems proud of what she has accomplished in terms of her confidence and her positive attitude toward her image, even if that image fluctuates.
