There have only been two divorced U.S. presidents in the nation’s history. Only one former president, James Buchanan, never married. Despite the stress that comes with the job, many former and current presidential marriages have lasted 40 years or more. The longest presidential marriage in history, still going strong, has lasted over 70 years.
Here are the marriages between presidents and first ladies that have lasted the longest.
15. Calvin and Grace Coolidge — 27 years
Calvin Coolidge married his wife Grace on October 4, 1905. The couple remained together until the former president’s death on January 5, 1933.

14. Warren and Florence Harding — 32 years
Warren Harding married wife Florence Harding on July 8, 1891. They stayed married until his death on August 2, 1923. The former first lady survived just over a year without her husband, dying in late 1924 at the age of 64. Harding was her second husband.

13. Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson — 39 years
Lyndon married Claudia “Lady Bird” Johnson on November 17, 1934. They remained together for nearly 40 years, until the former president died on January 22, 1973.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt married first lady Eleanor Roosevelt on March 17, 1905. They were married for 40 years, until FDR’s death on April 12, 1945.

Bill and Hillary Clinton married on October 11, 1975. The two remain married despite the drama surrounding the Monica Lewinsky scandal in 1998.

William Howard Taft married wife Helen Taft on June 19, 1886. They stayed together until President Taft’s death on March 8, 1930.
