The Way That Matt Lauer’s Wife Is Dealing With the Sexual Harassment Allegations May Surprise You
After former Today Show host Matt Lauer was fired for sexual misconduct in November 2017, a new drama began brewing back home. Now, it was time for his wife, Annette Roque, to pick up the pieces. However, the way she’s handling things isn’t what you would expect. Many didn’t think she would handle the news this way.
Here’s the surprising way Matt Lauer’s wife is dealing with the sexual harassment allegations.
Inside their marriage
Roque and Lauer have been married since 1998. However, life has been lonely for Roque even long before the accusations against Lauer were made. Entertainment Tonight reports Roque lived in the Hamptons in New York while Lauer stayed in Manhattan during the weekdays to film the Today show. They were rarely seen together. The last time the pair was seen in each other’s company was in September 2017 while they were on a lunch date, according to ET.

Roque allegedly kicked Lauer out of the home they shared with their three children. The New York Post says Lauer is residing at another home nearby, so he can still see the children. Apparently, Lauer doesn’t have to worry when it comes to shelter. He owns several New York properties. Among them are a $36.5 million home in North Haven (Richard Gere’s former home), a house in Sag Harbor, and a 40-acre horse farm in Water Mill.

Annette’s father speaks out
Matt Lauer’s father-in-law, Henri Roque, had a lot to say about what happened between his daughter and son-in-law. In an interview with Daily Mail he said everyone felt a sense of betrayal. “I have no words for her husband. What he has done is bad …She is feeling shocked and she is now having sorrow for her children. Me too. Everybody is feeling quite sad. There are also the kids; I don’t know what she’s doing or who they are going to stay with,” said Henri.

Matt Lauer’s ex-wife defends him
Surprisingly, Lauer’s ex-wife defends him. Nancy Alspaugh was married to Lauer from 1981 to 1988. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight she defended his character in the wake of the shocking sexual misconduct allegations. “I was shocked because he’s been such a stalwart at that network and in that job. He’s been the best person that’s ever held that job and I couldn’t imagine that anything that he would have done—that would have been so out of character for him—that would have caused that reaction,” said Alspaugh in her ET interview.

What Annette was spotted doing
After a long absence, Roque was seen having a fancy lunch with a friend in Amsterdam. According to Page Six, she finally looked relaxed and peaceful. Before, it was noted that she had often looked unhappy and uneasy whenever she was seen with Lauer. She also appeared frail and thin in the past. However, one of the Page Six TV hosts commented on how it appeared she was now gaining some weight and looking happier and healthier.

Divorce is looming
Divorce has been on the table for quite a while. Back in 2006, Roque began divorce proceedings but later changed her mind. She filed for divorce but then withdrew the documents and reconciled with Lauer, according to The New York Daily News. In the documents, Roque claimed Lauer had subjected her to “cruel and inhumane” treatment. Roque recently began the divorce process once again, reports US Weekly.

The ring is gone
The New York Post reported Roque is no longer wearing her wedding ring. Sources said she was having a good time at Rijks, which is an upscale restaurant at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum. “She was having lunch with a girlfriend. They were drinking red wine, and Annette did not have her wedding ring on. She was laughing through the whole lunch,” a witness told the newspaper.
Next: Where is he?
Lauer has been keeping a low profile these days. However, he has been spotted running errands around New York. An insider told US Weekly the former host is hoping to make a television comeback. “He thinks he’ll be back on TV at some point,” said the source. Until then, he told the magazine in a statement that he is working on repairing the damage caused by his missteps. He said damage repair is now “his full-time job.”

Fighting for the marriage
Although it looks as if Roque is moving forward with the divorce, People reports Lauer doesn’t want to split. He’s hoping the two can make up and restore their marriage, according to a source. People reports a big part of Lauer’s motivation for staying together is the couple’s three children. Lauer is trying desperately to stay as close as possible, so the can have regular contact with his family. However, Roque’s father told Daily Mail that his daughter is not trying to work things out with Lauer.
