The world seems to love Meghan Markle, and that’s partially because her husband-to-be, Prince Harry, adores her so much. Unfortunately, it seems that someone in Markle’s life isn’t such a fan. Her half sister, Samantha Grant, recently gave a scathing interview to an Australian TV station. And this wasn’t the first time she’s slammed her sister.
Who is Samantha Grant?
Markle and Grant have the same father, but they grew up in different houses, though Grant claims she did help raise Markle at one point. Grant, 52, was born to Thomas and Rosalyn Markle, according to Newsweek. Thomas later married Markle’s mother, yoga teacher Doria Radlan, and they split when she was 5. Grant has multiple sclerosis and lives in Florida, where she is wheelchair-bound and unemployed.
So what did Grant reveal during the interview? Plenty.
Next: The sisters were never close.
Estranged for a decade
Markle is 17 years younger than Grant, so the two never grew up together and were never close. Grant said they have been estranged since 2008, so they don’t speak, according to Newsweek. She also said she would have enjoyed a sisterly relationship with Markle.
Next: Is Grant’s illness the reason these sisters don’t speak?
Does Grant’s multiple sclerosis play a role in the lack of relationship?
Grant seemed to hint that her 2008 multiple sclerosis diagnosis was one of the reasons her sister doesn’t speak to her. “I didn’t feel a separation from her until I was in the wheelchair,” she said, according to The Sun.
Next: A social climber?
Markle is a ‘social climber’
In a previous interview, Grant said Markle is “a social climber” with “a soft spot for gingers.” She claimed Markle has always fancied Prince Harry because she’s had an ambition to become a princess.
Next: Grant’s harshest criticism of her sister involves their father.
Grant thinks her sister should help their father
Grant pulled no punches when it came to family matters, accusing Markle of abandoning their father, who lives a quiet life in Mexico and has declared bankruptcy in recent years. Grant said Markle should have done more to help him financially.
“Honestly, what she could spend in a weekend would greatly help Dad, so that should be a priority,” Grant said. “I think you need to step up to the plate and make sure he is well taken care of.” Grant also made a reference to the $75,000 dress Markle wore in her engagement photos, saying that kind of money could have helped their father. However, that dress was probably loaned to her.
Next: But Grant isn’t jealous — really.
Despite all the family drama, Grant has stated multiple times that she isn’t bitter or jealous. She has insisted she isn’t slamming Markle by revealing these things, saying, “I have a right to speak and a right to help people understand how things are.”
Next: The tell-all book
Grant is writing a tell-all book about her family
Stay tuned for a Samantha Grant memoir. She just penned a book that will be titled The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister, and she has teased that some juicy details will be revealed. However, Grant has insisted it’s not meant to slam anyone.
“First of all, it’s only a tell-all in that I go through and recant some of the beautiful nuances of our lives, our family home,” Grant told Vanity Fair. “But more importantly, it has to do with the inter-racial evolution of this country through the lens of my life and my family since the Civil Rights Act until present, and how that intersects with this recent event with my sister, you know, my feelings about it, my family’s feelings about it, and how sad it was going through it all. But it’s more of a beautiful, warm, witty story of our lives and my life.”

Grant apparently loves her sister
Despite having slammed her, Grant did have some kind things to say about Markle in her most recent interview.
“She’s lovely. She’s very animated, very charming, very lively, and no matter what I don’t believe that you can be a half sister,” she said on Good Morning Britain in October. “Either you’re sisters, or you’re not. In my heart and in reality she’s my sister, and she’s absolutely lovely.”
It sounds like Grant has some mixed emotions about her half sister.
