Photos of What Heidi Montag Looked Like Before Getting 10 Plastic Surgeries in 24 Hours (and How It Almost Killed Her)

These days, we don’t hear as much about Heidi Montag and her unpopular husband, Spencer Pratt. At one time, they were one of the most well-known reality TV couples. But eventually, Montag became more famous for her extreme plastic surgery than anything else.

Montag shocked the world when she had 10 plastic surgeries in just 24 hours. But it wasn’t easy — in fact, she almost didn’t come out alive.

Montag had her surgeries back in 2010, so it’s hard to even remember her old face. She was just 23 years old when she went under the knife, but she appears even younger in her “before” photos. She emerged from the operating table looking older than her 23 years and with completely different facial features.

So what did Montag have done in that 24 hour period, you might be wondering? Quite a bit, it turns out:

  • A mini brow lift
  • Botox in the forehead and frown area
  • A nose job revision
  • A chin reduction
  • Fat injections in the cheeks, nasolabial folds, and lips
  • Neck liposuction
  • The ears pinned back
  • A breast augmentation revision (increased to a DDD)
  • Liposuction on the waist, hips, and inner and outer thighs
  • Buttock augmentation

Montag had already had rhinoplasty and a breast augmentation in 2007, so she was no stranger to plastic surgery. Still, this is a lot for one body to handle, especially so suddenly.

Shortly after her surgery, Montag was interviewed by People Magazine. When she was asked why she had so many procedures at one, she replied, “That’s kind of my personality: Everything at once. And I really just wanted to go under anesthesia once, instead of going under again and again. It felt safer for me.”

Next: But as it turns out, the procedures were anything but safe.

Montag has previously said her surgeries were rough on her, but only in a recent interview with Paper Magazine has she admitted how horrifying her recovery was — and that at one point, she was technically dead on the operating table.

“Spencer thought he lost me,” Montag said. “I died for a minute. With that much surgery, I had to have 24-hour nurse care and Spencer didn’t want to leave my side. I was at a recovery center and had Demerol to deal with the pain because it was so extreme.”

The public (and private) perception wasn’t positive

Montag’s plastic surgery spree was instantly dubbed one of the craziest transformations of all time. And while the media was in a frenzy showing off her before and after photos, Montag was hoping her family would be supportive. But when she flew home to Crested Butte, Colorado to reveal her new look, her mother was surprised — and not in a good way. Montag’s mother told her she thought she looked better before, causing her to break down in tears.

Next: Nearly a decade later, Montag can admit it wasn’t worth it.

Currently, Montag is far removed from the days of “risking her own life for vanity,” as she puts it. In her Paper Magazine interview, she said, “A lot of positive things came out of that. I had to look at myself in the mirror every day healing, and be like, ‘What did I do to myself? How did I get here? What is going on?’ I basically had to hit that rock-bottom moment in my life, to realize what was important to me.”

She credits God for protecting her during what she calls “a huge mistake.”

Becoming a mother gave her new insight

After over a decade together, Montag and Pratt were thrilled to welcome a son, Gunnar. Right now they’re enjoying the moment and focusing on the future, she said during her interview with Paper. Montag wants Gunnar to flourish and enjoy his life without living “in his parents’ mistakes or shadows.”
