Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank will be married on October 12th, 2018. Now that all the excitement of the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has died down, everyone is getting ready for the next big royal wedding. So, how did the couple meet? What were the early years of their relationship like? Here is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s relationship timeline.

How they met

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank reportedly moved in the same social circles. Brooksbank was friends with Princess Eugenie’s cousin, Prince William. The couple officially met back in 2010 during a Switzerland ski trip. Eugenie’s family was celebrating the 50th birthday of her father, the Duke of York. At the time of their meeting, Brooksbank was working as a waiter and Eugenie was a student at Newcastle University. Eugenie and Brooksbank told the host of BBC’s The One Show With Matt Baker their meeting was “love at first sight.”

Love blossoms

In May of 2010, Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank were seen in public for the first time. They were photographed leaving a nightclub in Central London. That summer, Jack joined Eugenie and her family on a trip to the South of France. During this trip, Jack got to meet all the important people in Princess Eugenie’s life, such as her sister, Princess Beatrice, and their mother the Duchess of York.

Getting serious

In June 2011, Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank were seen together at their first major public event, the Royal Ascot. In August and then again in December of 2016, rumors began flying about the couple being engaged, but the rumors proved to be false. The buzz started after Eugenie was seen wearing a ring on her left hand, but it turns out it was a piece of jewelry she already owned.

Going the distance

Princess Eugenie graduated from college in 2012. In June 2013, she decided to work at Paddle8, an auction house in the United States. Instead of parting ways, the pair began a long-distance relationship. A month later, Brooksbank refers to Eugenie as his girlfriend for the first time in an interview with Daily Mail. He said they made their long-distance relationship work by spending a lot of time on Skype and flying back and forth to see each other. “We spend a lot of time on Skype. It’s great. We are still very much together,” Brooksbank told the publication in a 2013 interview.

A regular life

Eugenie moved back to London in 2015. In a 2016 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she spoke about her life with Brooksbank. It seems very much like a day in the life of any other young couple. Said Princess Eugenie, “When I’m with Jack, we watch The Walking Dead, which we’re obsessed with. Maybe Game of Thrones is our next thing. I don’t watch reality shows, but I love cooking programs,” she told the magazine.

Engaged

After seven years of dating, the couple decided to make it official in January 2018. In her BBC interview, Princess Eugenie said the proposal came as a surprise despite dating for such a long time. “I was over the moon. [It was a] complete surprise. But it was the perfect moment; we couldn’t be happier. Granny actually knew right at the beginning [of the engagement],” Princess Eugenie told BBC host Matt Baker. Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are set to be married October 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
