The Shocking Way Someone Almost Died at Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen’s Wedding
While most people regard their wedding as the most magical day of their lives, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen have different memories when it comes to their own. A scuffle between photographers and bodyguards caused quite a stir on the day of their nuptials. And after just a few moments, the altercation nearly turned deadly.
So, what exactly happened on the big day? And who was involved in this entire mess? Here are the wedding details we can’t forget.
1. It all started with two photographers attempting to get a glimpse at the wedding
Tom and Gisele expected their tiny, intimate wedding in Costa Rica to be completely drama-free, but such was not the case. According to TMZ Sports, two photographers attempted to capture photos of the wedding ceremony from a nearby location when trouble arose. Two of Tom and Gisele’s bodyguards approached the photographers, demanding the camera and memory card that had the pictures. Naturally, the photographers refused, as they insisted they had proper clearance to do as they pleased.

2. The guards reportedly opened fire, nearly killing the photographers
One of the photographers says the two of them tried to escape the bodyguards and flee, but that’s when the real trouble ensued, New York Daily News reports. The photographers went back into their SUV and attempted to make a quick getaway from the irate bodyguards. And that’s when they claim the two bodyguards opened fire on their vehicle.
One of the photographers tells Daily Mail Online that one of the bullets went straight through his car’s front and back windows. “If the bullet had been a little more to the left or right, it would have killed one of us,” he says. Luckily, neither were injured.
Next: The photographers took legal action against the newlyweds.
3. The photographers even sued Tom and Gisele over the incident
The scuffle may have been between the photographers and bodyguards, but the Brady family was hit with the blame. TMZ Sports notes the photographers were suing Tom and Gisele for hiring a dangerous security team. They sought $1 million in damages from the couple.
According to New York Daily News, a court near the incident’s location in Costa Rica found both guards guilty of attempted murder. The bodyguards were ordered to serve five years in prison each.

4. Tom says the entire incident never even happened
It took awhile for Tom Brady to make any comments regarding the incident. And when he finally did, his response didn’t align with what reportedly took place.
According to Daily Mail Online, he commented, “It’s absolute b.s. We found two guys on our property and we told them to get out. Our security didn’t even have guns. There were no shots fired.” Giselle also claimed she knew nothing about the shooting. While it’s nice the couple wasn’t too perturbed by the incident, it’s strange that the courts convicted the bodyguards while the Brady family maintains nothing happened at all.

5. This was actually the couple’s second wedding ceremony
When you’re rich and famous, why not have two ceremonies to celebrate? Brides notes that’s exactly what the couple did, though only a handful of people attended each trip down the aisle.
After their brief, month-long engagement, Tom and Gisele had their first wedding at the Santa Monica Catholic church with just 20 of their closest family and friends in attendance. And a month and a half later, the newlyweds flew out to Gisele’s Costa Rican home for their second wedding, which also only included 25 guests. And of course, the second ceremony is where the shooting took place.

6. Gisele recalls their wedding as a ‘magical day’
Despite their chaotic second ceremony, Gisele still looks back at her wedding to Tom with fondness. An Instagram post from 2015 shows a throwback photo from their wedding day, with the happy couple gazing at each other. Gisele captioned it, “Magical day!”
As for how Gisele decided Tom was the man for her, Us Weekly says she claims, “I knew Tom was the one straightaway.” She liked that he “was a man with integrity” who valued the same things she does. Evidently, she still feels that way, as the couple is stronger than ever.

7. And Tom also says their ceremonies were totally perfect
It seems the shooting at their second ceremony also didn’t taint Tom’s opinion of his wedding ceremonies. According to People, he loved having a small, intimate setting for both occasions. “I think you always have this idea that weddings need to be 200 people and you invite everybody, and I’m all for it if people want to do that, but I think there was really something special about just having our parents there,” he says.
Though Tom’s busy schedule doesn’t allow for too much time with his wife and kids, they reportedly make the most of it — especially when he’s on a winning streak with the Patriots.
