‘The Bachelor’: Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Former Girlfriends Reveal He’s a Total Player
When Arie Luyendyk Jr. was announced as the newest face of ABC’s The Bachelor for Season 22, it brought along the typical set of mixed reactions. While some were disappointed, many were thrilled to hear of the franchise’s choice. His former girlfriends, however, only felt the need to send out one warning: Luyendyk Jr. is a total player. Here’s what his exes have to say about the professional race car driver’s dating history.
He wasted no time after Emily’s season
After he lost to Jef Holm for Emily Maynard’s love on Season 8 of The Bachelorette, Luyendyk Jr. was crushed. He poured his heart out to her, and especially loved the fact that she was a mother. Even though he knew she couldn’t say she loved him, he admitted his love for her endlessly — and was confident she felt the same way.
Luyendyk Jr. barely had time to process the fact that Maynard dumped him before he was sent off in the exit limo. He seemed stunned, and as if he would never find love again. That is, until he moved on to one available Bachelorette after another.
He moved on to Courtney Robertson
Not long after he was sent home by Maynard, Luyendyk Jr. began dating Courtney Robertson. She was the winner of The Bachelor Season 16, where she stole the heart of Bachelor Ben Flajnik. Unfortunately, their happy ending went south, and they split in October 2012.
Literally one week after Robertson’s relationship ended, Luyendyk Jr. made his move. He and Robertson reportedly dated for a few months, but ended things for good in January 2013.
He briefly dated Selma Alameri
Luyendyk Jr. gave it another go with a past Bachelor contestant, this time with Season 17’s Selma Alameri. They began dating only one month after his split from Robertson, but this new relationship was over before it even began. After another demised relationship, Luyendyk Jr. told Us Weekly that he’d be keeping his love life out of the spotlight.
“I just want to keep my relationships private in the future,” he claimed. “That’s the reason Courtney and I split up and I probably should have learned from that, but hindsight is 20/20 and I’m happy to move forward and have a private relationship.”
Considering his new role as the Bachelor is the complete opposite of “private,” we’re assuming he’s since abandoned this philosophy.
Things got serious with a sports reporter
Despite his intention to keep his love life under wraps, he couldn’t help but gush to PopSugar about his new lady interest. He “immediately hit it off and began living [with]” sports reporter Jenna Jones, according to Bustle.
He even bragged about her on social media, which served as the official “confirmation” of his relationship. In early 2015, he posted a photo and wrote of Jones, “I’m one lucky man.. My #wcw.” according to Wetpaint. He also posted a since-deleted Instagram photo of Jones kissing him sweetly on the cheek.
Of course, when it was time for the two to break up, he went back to his quiet ways. We don’t know when it happened, but we do know he moved on to another woman.
His next flame has a lot to say about his Bachelor status
Luyendyk Jr.’s next relationship was with model Giustina Lee, and according to her Twitter, it seems like they had a lot of fun together. She even deemed him “one of her favorite humans” in September 2016, but since then, their relationship clearly didn’t end on the best terms.
Once Luyendyk Jr. was named Season 22’s Bachelor, Lee tweeted, “Being more embarrassed than sad when your ex is the new Bachelor is a telltale sign it probably wouldn’t have worked out.” Yikes.
Here’s where timelines get suspicious
Considering Lee posted the loving tweet about Luyendyk Jr. in September 2016, it seems a bit suspicious that he was dating another woman during that time. Sydney Stempfley, his now ex-girlfriend, told ET about how they met:
We started talking in January 2016, just through direct message. We kind of talked off and on just through Instagram, but I landed a job in Scottsdale after graduating [from Miami University in Ohio]. I flew out to search for apartments, so I messaged Arie and I told him that I would be in the area and he asked me out on our first date. We hit it off right away and started dating as soon as I moved here.
They dated until mid-July 2017 — only weeks before his Bachelor announcement. She explained that everything seemed normal as they were celebrating their one-year anniversary, but after getting into a minor argument, they decided to break things off.
Stempfley is definitely salty toward her ex
During her ET interview, Stempfley admitted that she was “completely blindsided” by the news of Luyendyk Jr. becoming the next Bachelor. According to ET, “Stempfley says she found out just like the rest of Bachelor Nation: during his appearance on Good Morning America.”
Nevertheless, she still defended her ex in the interview, claiming, “To my knowledge, the relationship was monogamous.”
However, when the franchise’s alum Sean Lowe suggested Luyendyk Jr. on Twitter as the next Bachelor, Stempfley replied, “The show would be perfect for @ariejr up until it comes to choosing just one.” It sounds like she may be accusing her former flame of cheating, but either way — she’s doubtful that he’ll have success at the end of his season.
