The Dark Secrets Behind Kim Kardashian’s First Marriage That Everyone Forgot About
Kim Kardashian may now be blissfully wed to Kanye West, but this is actually her third go-around at marriage. While basically everyone knows about her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011, not so many people are aware that she was married once before.
She wed her first husband, music producer Damon Thomas, when she was just 19 years old in 2000. However, they split just a few years later, but never spoke out about why. Their 2003 divorce papers have since been uncovered, revealing just how dark their marriage really was.
You won’t believe how Thomas tried to turn Kardashian against her family (page 5) and the physical abuse she endured during their marriage (page 6).
1. Thomas was controlling of Kardashian
According to The Daily Mail, Kardashian’s divorce papers revealed just how controlling Thomas was in their marriage. “Damon decided what we would do and when we would do it. He was very much the ‘king of the castle,’” Kardashian described.
Next: He didn’t want old boyfriends reaching her here.
2. He made her quit her job and college
Thomas was so controlling over Kardashian’s life that he reportedly forced her to quit her job as a salesgirl and drop out of college. Kardashian claimed, “He said he did not want me to have contact with my old boyfriends who would be able to reach me at the clothing store.”
Next: She was required permission for this.
3. He wouldn’t let her go anywhere alone
If Kardashian ever left their home, Thomas had to know her every move. In her court declaration, Kardashian claimed, “Damon told me not to leave the house unless I first told him when and where I was going.” She added, “If Damon were not home, I was required to call him and ask permission to leave the house.”
And sometimes, even if Kardashian asked to go out to dinner with life-long friends, Thomas wouldn’t let her go.
“For example, he would not allow me to go to the mall alone, or with friends. He told me that he did not want men to have an opportunity to ‘hit’ on me,” she explained.
Next: He wanted her to be “perfect.”
4. He pushed her to get plastic surgery
Thomas’ controlling behavior extended beyond knowing where Kardashian was at all times. He even began taking control over her looks, and forced her to get plastic surgery. According to The Daily Mail, he paid for her $3,650 liposuction to make her “perfect.” He also pushed her to get $1,000 worth of additional surgery.

5. He tried to divide her from her family
We all know how close Kardashian is with her family, but when she was married to Thomas, he tried to divide them apart. “He allegedly showed naked pictures of one of Kim’s sisters to her father [and branded] the siblings ‘whores,’” The Daily Mail reported.
Thomas even reportedly tried to brainwash Kardashian into think her mother and sisters were “evil.”
Next: He became physically abusive in their marriage.
6. Kardashian was the victim of domestic violence
The divorce documents revealed just how violent Kardashian’s marriage to Thomas was. According to The Daily Mail, “Thomas would punch her in the face, slam her against walls and throw her across the room, leaving her bruised and battered.”
Apparently, Thomas continued abusing her even after their April 2003 separation. He once came by to pick up some items from their house, and “he came at me and slammed me against the closet wall,” Kardashian recalled.

7. He’s since called her a ‘fame whore’
In 2017, Thomas spoke out about what he thinks of Kardashian after all these years. In an interview with In Touch Weekly, he bashed his ex by basically calling her attention-seeking and talentless.
“She can’t write or sing or dance, so she does harmful things in order to validate herself in the media,” he said. “That’s a fame-whore to me. It’s just not cool at all.”
Given the empire Kardashian has built and all the success she’s found in her life, we’d argue that she’s the one who came out on top.
