Need to Lose Weight Before a Wedding? 8 Easy Habits That Work Wonders

Nobody said preparing for your wedding is easy. However, it’s hard to know the real stress of it until you’re balancing choosing your vendors, figuring out payments, finding the perfect dress, and basically throwing a big party for all your friends and family. To top it off, most brides want to lose a few pounds before the big day. Knowing you’re going to be the center of attention is enough motivation, but trying to fit a diet and exercise routine around your hectic planning is no joke.

If you integrate these eight habits into your daily routine, you’ll be slimming down in no time to feel like the best version of yourself on your wedding day.

1. Drink more water

You may hear this tip all the time, but we truly do recommend drinking more water. Not only is water beneficial to your overall health, but it can play a huge factor when trying to lose weight. It will curb your appetite, assist in burning calories, and help remove toxins from your body.

As a general guideline, you should drink 4 to 8 glasses per day. Try adding it to your routine by carrying around a refillable water bottle wherever you go. If you’re really in the mood for some flavor, opt for a naturally flavored seltzer water.

2. Eat whole foods

Think of eating as an opportunity to nourish your body. While, yes, cooking whole, fresh foods like sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, quinoa, or asparagus may take more effort than heating up a frozen pizza, the benefits will definitely show. Fresh fruits and veggies will keep you energized for your wedding planning, and will fill you up faster with fewer calories. Plus, whole foods will improve your digestion with a higher fiber content, so it will keep everything moving and improve your overall health.

3. Eat slower with smaller portions

No matter how healthy the food on your plate is, overeating can keep you from shedding those pounds. Keep the portion sizes small and savor your food while eating slowly. By the time you finish your plate, wait a little while, and you may feel fuller than you’d think. You’ll be able to monitor your food intake more effectively, rather than eating too much, too quickly, and not knowing you’re full until it’s too late.

4. Drink less alcohol

Cutting back on alcohol consumption will play a major factor in achieving your weight loss goals by your wedding day. It may not feel like your favorite cocktail is high in calories, but each drink could put an extra 150 calories (or more!) into your body. On top of cutting out the calories from alcohol itself, you’ll avoid drunkenly justifying eating a whole bag of potato chips.

If you absolutely need a drink after a long day of wedding planning, consider lower calorie alcohol, such as a small glass of wine. Be sure to drink it slowly, and if you plan to have more than one glass, drink water in between to limit the amount of alcohol you end up drinking.

5. Move when you can

Whether or not you’re used to exercising regularly, simply trying to incorporate more movement into your daily routine will do your body wonders. When it’s possible, walk or bike somewhere instead of driving or taking the subway. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you have some free time during your lunch break, take a walk instead of scrolling through your phone.

Moving your body will not only burn calories, but it will boost your energy levels throughout the day. To stay on track, set daily goals using a Fitbit or a fitness app on your phone.

6. Keep an exciting exercise routine

To really get the calorie-burning process going, try to get in at least three or four days of exercise per week. Aim for at least 20 minutes of exercise, and 30 to 45 to enhance your results.

This may sound daunting, but if you keep your exercise routine exciting, you’ll be having fun while feeling good about yourself. Try switching it up each time you workout. If one day you go out for a light run, go for a bike ride the next time. On the weekend, spend time with one of your bridesmaids by playing tennis for some friendly competition.

7. Get your beauty rest

A good night’s sleep is the key to sticking to your weight loss plan. The recommended seven to eight hours per night will encourage calorie loss, metabolize carbs, and keep you energized. You’ll be needing that energy to choose a 20 minute run over a 20 minute or longer nap after work.

8. Be healthy together

There’s no better way to get healthy than to do it with your life partner. Your partner probably wants to look their best for the wedding (after all, it’s their day, too), so why not get fit together? You’ll help each other stay motivated and disciplined by keeping each other in check. Make grocery shopping a team effort, so if one of you tries to sneak some Oreos into the cart, the other can put them back on the shelf where they belong.

By incorporating these easy habits into your household as a team, you will start seeing results quickly and will be more likely to live a healthier lifestyle — even after your wedding day comes to a close.
