The Insane Feud Between Princess Diana and Camilla, Plus the Shocking Name Camilla Gave Diana That Stuck
Although Prince Charles’ entanglement to former flame Camilla Parker Bowles was always humming in the undercurrent when the prince and princess were married, Diana put rumors to rest during the 1995 televised interview. And while Charles and Diana battled during their marriage, Diana had her own grudge against the woman who drove a wedge into the relationship with her husband. Don’t miss the horrible names Camilla called Diana on page 8.
1. First came Camilla
Camilla and Charles dated long before Diana was in the picture. The couple met in 1970 at a polo match and started a courtship. However, as soon as the couple’s relationship heated up, Camilla married Andrew Parker Bowles in 1973. Although Charles moved on an eventually married Diana, he and Camilla were left longing.

2. Diana and Camilla’s relationship was good — at first
Camilla said she and her husband Andrew liked Diana and the women forged a friendship at first, Daily Mail reports. Shortly after Diana and Charles were engaged, Camilla invited Diana to lunch and Diana was thrilled to show off her engagement ring.
However, once Charles revealed to Diana he and Camilla were intimate at one time, Diana became worried and obsessed with Camilla, according to Camilla’s account. After learning about Diana’s concern, Camilla claims she tried to distance herself from Charles to avoid confrontation.

3. The 2 things Charles shouldn’t have done
Although he knew his wife-to-be was concerned about his previous affair with Camilla, Charles gave Camilla two gifts that may have set the feud in motion. First, when Camilla was ill Charles asked his assistant to send her flowers, according to Daily Mail.
Next, Diana found a bracelet on Charles’ assistant’s desk that was intended for Camilla. The gift rattled Diana, especially since the bracelet contained an endearing engraving with Charles and Camilla’s nicknames, “G & F,” which stood for Gladys and Fred.
Next: The perfect storm ignited full out war between the women.
4. This may be what started Charles and Camilla’s affair
Early into marriage, Diana battled an eating disorder and was plagued with concern that Charles may be cheating on her, according to Daily Mail. As a result, Charles became more withdrawn and depressed, according to friends’ accounts. Finally, Charles’ friend Lady Susan urged Camilla to call Charles, believing she was the only person who could reach him.
While Charles claimed he had no intention of renewing his affair with Camilla, the pair came together and romance sparked.

5. Diana made it clear to Camilla she knew what was going on
Diana said the worst day of her life was when she found out Charles had returned to Camilla, Daily Mail reports. She decided she’d make it perfectly clear she was no longer interested in public civility at Camilla’s 40th birthday party. Instead of the traditional “kiss hello” Diana decided she would shake Camilla’s hand. But Diana didn’t stop there. She needed Camilla to understand she wasn’t playing along any longer.

6. Camilla tries to deflect
Diana flatly told Camilla she knew about her affair with Charles, according to Daily Mail. And while Camilla responded, “Oh, it’s not a cloak-and-dagger situation” and that Diana never lets Charles see the children.
Diana pushed back with this assertion. “Camilla, the children are either at Highgrove or in London.” She said, “That’s Charles’s biggest fault: he never sees the children. But I never take them away.”

7. Was this Camilla’s way of telling Diana to hand over Charles?
At that point, many women may have stopped and walked away if they were having an affair with another woman’s husband. Not Camilla. Daily Mail recounts her rather shocking response. “You’ve got everything you ever wanted. You’ve got all the men in the world falling in love with you, and you’ve got two beautiful children. What more could you want?”
Diana’s returned with, “I want my husband. ‘I’m sorry I’m in the way… and it must be hell for both of you. But I do know what’s going on. Don’t treat me like an idiot.'”
Next: Camilla sadly stooped to this level.
8. Did Diana deserve this?
During the affair and up to her death, Camilla took to calling Diana names. In fact, early in their marriage, Camilla referred to Diana as “a mouse,” Newsweek reports. Once the affair was in full bloom, Camilla called Diana “that mad cow.” Camilla constantly portrayed the young princess as a “hysteric” and “manipulative” likely to affirm her union with Charles.
Camilla also claimed Diana arrived unexpectedly during a private dinner party, demanding to that Camilla leave Charles alone. Camilla said she kept her cool; reminding her the behavior was unacceptable at her private home.
