The Secrets Behind What Vanessa Trump, Donald Trump Jr.’s Soon-to-Be Ex-Wife, Is Really Like
Team Trump is losing one of its own as Vanessa and Donald Jr. are calling it quits. Vanessa Trump has requested an uncontested divorce from Donald Trump Jr. The couple issued a joint statement: “After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways,” according to Page Six. “We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority.”
While details are yet to be revealed about what truly broke up the marriage, here’s what we know about Vanessa Trump and why her divorce might be a very smart move (page 6).
1. She didn’t mince words about Donald Jr.’s father
In 2003, Donald Trump played matchmaker between Vanessa and Don Jr. In fact, Donald was so enthusiastic about the Vanessa and Don Jr. pairing that he made the introduction twice, which was apparently quite awkward, according to The New York Times.
Six weeks later, Don Jr. and Vanessa bumped into each other at a party. Vanessa realized who Don Jr. was and said, “You’re the one with the re*****d dad!”
Next: Keeping it real was always Vanessa’s thing.
2. Vanessa was a tough chick in high school
Vanessa was considered “a total gangster b*tch,” according to her former classmates from Dwight School in New York, Vanity Fair reports. Others said her dating choices appeared to be quite different than the man she ultimately married. For a while, she was linked with someone who classmates referred to as the “Latin King.”

3. Vanessa says she dated Leonardo DiCaprio, but a source says ‘not true’
Despite rumors that Vanessa was linked with Leo, publicist Cindy Guagenti told New York magazine, “He never dated her,” according to Vanity Fair. The pair was spotted at a party and gallery opening. But other than the two sightings, that was it.
Next: Maybe she would have been better off with DiCaprio.
4. Don Jr.’s intensity didn’t match Vanessa’s true nature
Sources told Page Six that Vanessa’s low-key personality didn’t mesh with the bombastic Trump image. Also, Donald Jr. travels most of the time — either on business or one of his infamous hunting trips — while Vanessa is home alone with the children. Plus, those who are close to him say Donald Jr. has changed, citing his odd and often aggressive tweeting.
Next: She’s a devoted mother.
5. Vanessa is a multitasking mama
Vanessa is a hands-on mother and might not even have a nanny to help her manage five children, ages 10 and under, according to People. “My sister-in-law Vanessa is a machine. She can take all of [my children] and not even notice. She has five children and she’s Wonder Woman to me,” Ivanka Trump told People in 2016.
Next: The divorce might end up protecting Vanessa and her children in the long run.
6. She filed for divorce as the Russia probe heated up
Vanessa filed for divorce from Donald Jr. right before Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation could potentially freeze the Trump assets. Attorney Nancy Chemtob, who is not connected to the Trump family, told Page Six that Vanessa might have filed for divorce now to lock down Donald Jr.’s assets. Plus, while the divorce is still pending, she might also avoid having to testify against Donald Jr.
Next: She could return to her former career.
7. She could return to modeling and acting if she ever needs money
Vanessa was an actress and model before her courtship and wedding to Donald Jr., according to People. Her career was really heating up at the time. She even snagged an appearance in the Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton 2003 film, Something’s Gotta Give.
Next: She also might revive this former business venture with her sister.
8. She might open another nightclub or travel the world
Vanessa and her sister, Veronika, were close in age and in business. The sisters, born 11 months apart, launched a nightclub in 2003. They embarked on their passion project, a Polynesian-themed club called Sessa, after years on the Manhattan party scene. WWD reported on Sessa’s opening and interviewed the sisters. “It all puts you in Bali,” Vanessa said.
9. She could try to revive her failed handbag line
Vanessa and Veronika explored another joint venture nearly a decade after Sessa. They developed a handbag line, La Poshett, which sold from around 2011 to 2013. The bags were sold at trunk shows and impressed buyers. “We visited the @LaPoshett Trunk Show by @MrsVanessaTrump at The Plaza. We purchased The Tote. A truly fabulous piece,” BuyMyCloset tweeted. La Poshett stopped circulating, but you can still find the purses for resale online.
