Deng wrote a tribute about Trump when she was named as one of The 100 Most Influential People in Time. “I have had the privilege of calling her my dear friend for 12 years,” Deng wrote. “We met as neighbors in New York City and quickly grew close. As modern working moms, we have faced many of the same challenges and joys, and she has become a trusted counsel in my life.”

Deng and Trump seem to enjoy posting about their friendship and travels together. For instance, the women strike a warm pose during Donald Trump’s inaugural dinner in one Instagram post. Trump also posted a photo visiting Dubrovnik with Deng in 2016. It also isn’t uncommon for the ladies to be photographed together at a red carpet event too. Deng also posted a birthday message to Trump’s husband Jared Kushner in 2016 too.

Murdoch ended his 14-year marriage to Deng when he suspected her of cheating with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, according to Vanity Fair. It was no secret Deng and Blair had a close relationship, but a note she wrote about Blair may have tipped the scale. “Whatever why I’m so so missing Tony. Because he is so so charming and his clothes are so good,” according to Deng’s note. “He has such good body and he has really really good legs Butt . . . And he is slim tall and good skin. Pierce blue eyes which I love. Love his eyes. Also, I love his power on the stage . . . and what else and what else and what else . . . ”

4. Did she have an affair with Vladimir Putin too?

While the Blair affair may have been scandalous, her connection to Vladimir Putin was downright creepy. A few tabloids linked Deng to Putin around the time she was allegedly dating Blair, according to Vanity Fair. Rumors swirled around the possibility of Deng and Putin dating as far back as 2013, US Weekly reports. A photo also surfaced of Deng with Trump and Putin looking cozy. But the image was dispelled on Snopes as being photoshopped.

5. Counterintelligence reports issued this warning about Deng

U.S. officials warned Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump that Deng may be using her friendship with the couple for nefarious reasons. A counterintelligence report suggested the Deng may be working for the Chinese government. And her ties to the couple are being leveraged to possibly provide priority to Chinese interests, according to The Wall Street Journal. One specific concern is Deng’s involvement in a $100 million Chinese garden located at the National Arboretum. Security officials expressed concerns it could be used for surveillance.

6. Deng responded with this comment

Of course, Deng’s spokesperson responded to these allegations by saying she, “has no knowledge of any FBI concerns or other intelligence agency concerns relating to her or her associations,” according to The Wall Street Journal. And she “has absolutely no knowledge of any garden projects funded by the Chinese government.”

A representative from the Chinese embassy said the information is, “full of groundless speculations.” However, a source close to the story told The Wall Street Journal this isn’t the first time Deng showed up on the government’s radar. This was due to her suspected affair with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

7. The author of Fire and Fury tweeted this haunting warning

Someone close to Deng’s ex-husband may have insight that may come back to haunt her. Michael Wolff, author of Fire and Fury also penned a book about Deng’s ex-husband, Rupert Murdoch in 2008 as well, according to The Huffington Post. Apparently, Murdoch told Wolff he had his suspicions about his ex-wife. Wolff tweeted in January: “Since their divorce, Murdoch has been telling anybody who would listen that Wendi is a Chinese spy–and had been throughout the marriage.”
